Throughcare Caseworkers / Case Managers

North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency

Help people move forward. Strengthen connections. Create lasting change.

NAAJA is seeking passionate and culturally capable Throughcare Caseworkers and Case Managers to join our casual workforce in Darwin and Alice Springs.

Working within NAAJA’s Throughcare and Justice Support Services Program, you will support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and adults before and following their release from custody. You will work alongside participants to build on their strengths, address barriers, reconnect with family, community, culture and Country, and access the practical supports they need to create positive and sustainable change.

Whether you are an experienced Case Manager looking to use your skills in complex case management or an emerging community services professional wanting to build your experience as a Caseworker, we want to hear from you.

Throughcare Caseworkers

As a Caseworker, you will support participants experiencing low to moderate levels of need and complexity. Working with regular guidance and support, you will:

  • build trusted and culturally safe relationships with participants;
  • undertake intake, assessment, goal setting and case planning;
  • provide practical assistance, advocacy, referrals and outreach support;
  • assist participants to access housing, health, education, employment, cultural and community services;
  • support participants before and following their release from custody;
  • work alongside families, communities, service providers and justice agencies; and
  • help participants identify their strengths, achieve their goals and build a positive future.

You will ideally hold a Certificate III in Community Services or a related discipline, or bring equivalent industry experience, cultural knowledge and capability.

Throughcare Case Managers

As a Case Manager, you will independently support participants experiencing complex, multiple or high-risk needs. Drawing on your professional expertise and judgement, you will:

  • undertake comprehensive assessments and develop individualised case management plans;
  • coordinate intensive and multidisciplinary responses;
  • lead complex case meetings, care-team meetings and case conferences;
  • provide intensive advocacy for participants experiencing significant or systemic barriers;
  • support complex transitions from custody into the community;
  • identify and respond to emerging risks and safeguarding concerns;
  • provide guidance and case consultation to Caseworkers; and
  • contribute to the ongoing development of culturally responsive Throughcare practice.

You will ideally hold a Diploma in Community Services, Social Work, Psychology or a related discipline, or bring substantial relevant industry experience together with strong cultural knowledge and capability.

What you will bring

You will be someone who:

  • is committed to working respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, families and communities;
  • understands the experiences and barriers faced by people involved in the justice system;
  • can provide culturally safe, trauma-informed, person-centred and strengths-based support;
  • builds genuine relationships while maintaining professional boundaries;
  • communicates effectively with participants, families, communities and professional stakeholders;
  • is flexible, reliable and comfortable providing support across community, custodial and outreach settings; and
  • wants their work to make a meaningful difference.
