Background

MusicNT exists to support the growth and development of original contemporary music in the Northern Territory. MusicNT is a non-profit music organisation representing, developing and servicing the Territory’s original music industry.

As the lead contemporary music development body for the Northern Territory, MusicNT has a focus on developing and strengthening networks with national music industry representatives as well as strengthening links with regional centres throughout the Territory.

Role Purpose:

This position is responsible for presenting MusicNT and its suite of activities and programs in an engaging way that builds upon our reputation.

Position type:

Full-time position (or part thereof by negotiation). Ongoing contract with a three-month probation period. Flexible working arrangements available.

Salary:

Salary details $65,000 - $75,000 per annum pro-rata + 11% superannuation (depending on experience)

Media, Key Suppliers, Research Partners, Graphic Designers, Printers, Artists, Sponsors and Key Stakeholders

Key Results Areas

1. Stakeholder Management:

  • Maintain effective relationships on behalf of MusicNT with members, relevant industry stakeholders, sponsors and artists.
  • Gather stakeholder engagement data and community and industry feedback and present back to MusicNT.
  • Develop and manage communications and engagement initiatives that grow the MusicNT membership.

2. External Communication:

  • Build awareness of MusicNT in the Territory, national and international music industries by actively promoting MusicNT’s services, programs, activities and events.
  • Promote awareness of the NT music industry to a wider audience.
  • Design, implement and manage targeted communication to identified stakeholders, people from diverse cultures and remote communities.
  • Actively drive to increase membership and participation in MusicNT events and programs.

3. Internal Communication:

  • As required and directed, champion and deliver internal communication strategies and initiatives eg. implementation of branding guidelines.

4. Event Management:

  • As directed by the Operations Manager, develop and deploy advertising and communication programs for MusicNT events and programs.
  • Identify and recommend event promotions improvements.

5. Working Together:

  • Build effective relationships with team members to achieve common goals.
  • Share all relevant or useful information freely.
  • Demonstrate respect for others with differing perspectives.

Person Specification

  • Qualifications: typically require a skill level which assumes and requires knowledge or training equivalent to: a degree with subsequent relevant experience, or extensive experience and specialist expertise or broad knowledge in technical, creative or administrative fields, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Level of Supervision: Direction is provided on the assignments to be undertaken, with the occupant determining the appropriate use of established methods, tasks and sequences. There is some scope to determine an approach in the absence of established procedures or detailed instructions, but guidance is readily available. Performance is checked by assignment completion.
  • Task Level Perform work assignments guided by policy, precedent, professional standards and managerial or technical expertise. Staff members would have the latitude to develop or redefine procedure and interpret policy so long as other work areas are not affected. In technical and administrative areas, have a depth or breadth of expertise developed through extensive relevant experience and application.
  • Judgement, independence and problem solving: Discretion to innovate within own function and take responsibility for outcomes; design, develop and test systems and procedures; undertake planning involving resources use and develop proposals for resource allocation; analyse and report on data and project outcomes.
  • Organisational Knowledge Perform tasks/assignments which require proficiency in the work area's existing rules, regulations, policies, procedures, systems, processes and techniques and how they interact with other related functions, and to adapt those procedures and techniques as required to achieve objectives without impacting on other areas.

Experience

  • Experience in communications and engagement activities for a membership based organisation;
  • Experience in the development of creative and innovative marketing, communications and engagement strategies on a limited budget;
  • Experience in the creative industries.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the principles of communication and marketing;
  • Highly developed social media skills;
  • Ability to assist in the planning of workshops, conferences and public forums;
  • Knowledge of the principles of web design and communication;
  • Highly developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills;
  • Established networks, or the ability to establish networks in the music industry;
  • Ability to effectively market to, and communicate with, people from diverse cultural backgrounds;
  • Ability to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds;
  • Ability to work as part of a team and autonomously.
