Marketing & Audience Engagement Coordinator - Remote / Work from Home

Music in Exile

About Us

Music in Exile is a registered Australian charity supporting musicians with lived experience of migration and displacement. Since 2019, we have supported artists to write, record, release and tour original music, developing professional networks and creating real opportunities for a career in the arts.

We operate on the principle of ‘artist first’, ensuring that artists themselves guide this process at every step of the way, in an attempt to ensure artists retain ownership over the tools, resources and networks necessary to further their careers and create a sense of belonging.

In undertaking this work, we hope to contribute to an Australian music industry that is accessible for all, and that accurately represents the many voices of our community. In turn, we see this as leading to a more cohesive and connected society.

Role Description

We are seeking a creative, enthusiastic and innovative mind to help grow and strengthen Music in Exile’s connection with its audiences. You will lead our work in sharing our vision and impact with artists through a clear marketing and communications strategy across various platforms.

Music in Exile works with artists of the highest calibre, representing the rich cultural diversity of Australia’s music scene - each with unique and inspiring stories to tell. We support artists via artist professional and creative development, live performance, touring and recording, as well as creating unique merchandise items and vinyl records that are distributed worldwide.

The Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for communicating the stories of the artists we work with as well as the impact we are having (both at the individual level and in the arts industry more broadly) in order to connect with existing and new audiences - online, in person, or through merchandising and donations. We hope to engage supporters in a meaningful dialogue and encourage their further and ongoing commitment from audiences - for example by buying merchandise, turning up to a live show, donating to the charity, or sharing our work with their wider networks. The Engagement Coordinator will manage our social media presence, our email newsletter, our CRM and our key campaign communications.

We work with an average of 5-6 artists per year, each with a unique background and often residing in different parts of the country. This role presents a unique opportunity to build relationships of trust with these artists, understanding how they would like to tell their stories, and weaving this into a broader narrative around Music in Exile and our vision for a connected society where all are welcomed and diversity is celebrated.

The Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for delivering 3-4 audience engagement campaigns per year to support revenue development for our organisation, allowing us to continue the work that we do supporting artists. The Engagement Coordinator will work closely alongside our Events & Partnerships role to leverage the many opportunities for audience engagement that are involved in live music events and collaborations with other arts institutions, brands, festivals, and like-minded organisations.

Applicants can be based anywhere Australia-wide, noting that our current team members work remotely across Adelaide, Canberra and Melbourne. In person engagement in Melbourne with our Events and Partnerships Coordinator is possible.
