Melythina Tiakana Warrana (Heart of Country) Aboriginal Corporation

ABOUT Melythina Tiakana WarrAna (Heart of Country) aboriginal corporation

Melythina Tiakana Warrana (Heart of Country) Aboriginal Corporation (MTWAC) is a not-for-profit Aboriginal Community-controlled Organisation founded in 2008. MTWAC is based in Launceston, with on-Country operations centred on Tebrakunna Country (Cape Portland) in Northeast Trouwunna / Tasmania.

MTWAC's major annual community event is Mannalargena Day, celebrating the life of ancestral grandfather Mannalargenna, revered Bungana (leader) of the clans of the Coastal Plains Nation of Northeast Tasmania. MTWAC operates with a palpable commitment to best practice governance. The corporation has managed to rise above the horror of its historic past. It has found a way to honour the ancestors and build goodwill between present-day Tasmanians regardless of their heritage.

For an initial period of 12 months, the Executive Officer role will provide high level administrative support to the MTWAC Board of Directors and General Manager. This role involves fostering positive relationships between staff, Board, and stakeholders, coordinating Board meetings, ensuring compliance with governance requirements, proactive management of competing timelines and priorities and the smooth running of the MTWAC office. This role requires a passionate and community-focused individual who aligns with MTWAC’s values of collaboration, respect, trust, and self-determination.

MTWAC is looking for motivated, high functioning candidates with a minimum of 2 years' experience in a similar role with a community-based not-for-profit organisation to apply for this position. Candidates will also be able to demonstrated the following:

  • A strong, working understanding of Aboriginal culture, history, and community dynamics, with a commitment to cultural integrity and self-determination.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with staff, the MTWAC Board, and diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in the performance and administration of matters relating to a Company Secretarial function.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with government agencies, funding bodies, and industry partners.
  • Ability to work autonomously, manage priorities and drive others to meet deadlines.
  • Intermediate to advanced competence in the use of relevant Software applications (Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook and Excel).
  • Professional qualifications in governance would be highly regarded.

Additional benefits of this role include:

  • Attractive salary packaging options to reduce pre-tax income.
  • Potential for flexible work arrangements, including the potential to work from home some days.
  • Supportive employer inclusive of opportunities for professional development.
