Marian Street Theatre for Young People has been transforming the lives of young people for over 50 years through its live theatre performances and Drama Education Centre.

MSTYP plays a significant role in the cultural life of Sydney’s northern suburbs and works to deliver excellent outcomes for young people.

We are looking for a person who can significantly contribute to shaping the future of this organisation, through fundraising and development, as it moves into a new phase of its growth.

ROLE SUMMARY

This is a part-time, newly created, hands-on role. You will be working with a small team to lead and guide the organisation towards building a solid strategic, fundraising plan, in line with the company’s mission and ethos.

The initial focus will be on analysis of the existing supporter base followed by the development and implementation of a sustainable long-term plan to attract funds for the organisation, including both acquisition, across multiple channels, as well as retention of existing supporters.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Initially

  • Artistic Director / CEO & General Manager to provide briefing. Then this role will compose and provide a thorough written report on the background of ALL funding activities conducted in past 7 years up until now.
  • Research current database and provide analysis/report of existing donors: retention & attrition - including providing a recommendation in relation to CRM database.
  • Work with AD/CEO and GM to create achievable KPIs for this role, particularly in relation to sponsorships and donations
  • Work with AD/CEO and GM to create achievable fundraising targets and budgets for this organisation over a 3-5 year period.
  • Report in to the AD/CEO and work closely with GM to assess and build a solid, sustainable fundraising strategy involving comprehensive written recommendations for both acquisition and retention of donors/funding across appropriate channels.

Ongoing

  • Raise funds: lead, implement, continually review opportunities and develop fundraising activities relating to the acquisition (agreed upon channels) and retention of supporters outlined in organisation’s strategic master plan – these must align with MSTYP values and objectives.
  • Seek business partnerships through prospecting and research, conducting due diligence, cultivating and soliciting corporate organisations.
  • Look for opportunities to integrate corporate sponsors into the organisation – this may include workplace giving.
  • Meet or exceed the financial targets set out and agreed to for the role.
  • Manage and track relevant budget and prospects to ensure the targets are on track.
  • Build, maintain and manage key external relationships.
  • Work with MSTYP staff to build engagement activities for supporters
  • Identify future sources of funding and develop fundraising timeline and schedules
  • Regularly report in to CEO and Marketing Manager on fundraising activities at weekly WIPS; this includes provision of minutes and action items taken at WIPS.

SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES

Essential for candidates to have:

  • Experience in a high level fundraising role, whether it be in a charity, agency or arts and cultural organisation.
  • Demonstrated experience in running successful fundraising campaigns, acquisition campaigns across multiple channels as well as experience in donor retention programs.
  • Exceptional relationship management skills with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Ability to think and plan strategically.
  • A mature person with well-developed research and organisational skills with superior attention to detail.
  • Be thorough and dedicated to independent arts

We look very favourably upon candidates who have knowledge & experience in the following areas of fundraising:

  • Integrated direct marketing (this includes data analysis followed by Direct Mail/EDM/website); Bequests; Major donors; Corporate Sponsorship.
  • Results oriented, with strong planning, organisational and negotiation skills.
  • Great researcher.
  • Willing to be hands-on if needed
  • Good to have but not essential for this role
  • Knowledge & experience in grants fundraising.
