ABOUT US

The Medical Scientists Association of Victoria, part of the Health Services Union Vic Branch 4, is a registered trade Union representing workers in public, community and private health settings, working as medical scientists, hospital pharmacists, psychologists, medical physicists, dietitians, audiologists, genetic counsellors and clinical perfusionists across Victoria.

We are looking for someone who understands Unions, and has a passion for social justice, to join our growing team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide advice and support to members over the phone and via email about workplace rights and entitlements.
  2. Quickly navigate enterprise agreements and other industrial documents, to identify and understand employment terms and conditions.
  3. Provide high level service to Union members.
  4. In collaboration with other Union staff, support the development of industrial relations projects, for instance member resources.
  5. The ability to utilise a member database.
  6. Other duties as directed from time to time - including participation in Union organising campaigns or events.

With further experience, the job may expand to include:

  1. Representing members and providing advocacy in workplace matters (for instance, disciplinary matters, underperformance concerns, bullying complaints, negotiating flexible working arrangements).
  2. Supporting the union and members to respond to change processes in the workplace.
  3. Representing members and providing advocacy in return to work and workplace injury matters.
  4. Providing support to other Industrial staff with negotiating enterprise agreements (for instance, prepare correspondence, support development of log of claims etc).
  5. Other industrial or organising duties with the opportunity to shape elements of the role to suit your strengths and interests.

position requirements

  1. Demonstrated commitment to social justice and fairness (Union values).
  2. Experience in a Union, or other comparable role providing advice to members or clients.
  3. High level verbal and written communication skills.
  4. Problem solving skills.
  5. Planning and organisational skills (experience establishing priorities, allocating resources and meeting deadlines).
  6. The ability to work both as part of a team and on your own.
  7. Previous experience in industrial relations or related field not strictly necessary but will be highly regarded.
  8. This job can be offered at full-time or part-time hours (e.g. 0.6 or 0.8).

WAGES AND HOURS OF WORK

The terms and conditions we provide our workers are heavily based on what negotiate for our key member groups:

  • Salary range $83,611 and $94,713 p.a. (pro rata) commensurate with skills and experience.
  • ADO / RDO per month if full-time.
  • 5 weeks annual leave.
  • Three additional days paid leave over Christmas / New Year period.
  • Long Service Leave entitlement of 6 months after 15 years, able to be accessed pro rata after 5 years.
  • Discretionary 2% allowance which may be be paid directly as salary or additional superannuation.

Work can be performed hybrid; both in office (Carlton) and from home, with some negotiable flexibility around this. The exact working hours are negotiable.
