About Western Sydney Community Legal Centre Limited (WSCLC)

WSCLC’s Community Legal Centre Program (CLCP) provides free legal advice and other legal and related services to the community of Western Sydney.

The CLCP team provides legal services via specialised legal teams:

  • Aboriginal Legal Access Program Legal Service
  • Community Justice legal service
  • Family Relations Legal Service
  • Multicultural Legal Service
  • Outreach Legal Service

About this Role

We are looking for an experienced lawyer with specific focus on employment law to join the CLCP Community Justice Legal Service team for a 3-to-6-month (FT-PT) fixed term contract or secondment opportunity. The objective of this role will be to be to undertake a capacity building role within the WSCLC Community Justice Legal Team in relation to employment law particularly around increasingly complex COVID related employment law issues.

This role will be primarily based at the Parramatta Office with some outreach required to other sites as directed once we have returned to the office. There is however flexibility once we have returned to the workplace.

  • Position Title: Solicitor – Employment Law
  • Regular Location of Employment: Parramatta with some work at outreach sites.
  • Status: Hours are flexible, 3-6 month fixed term contract or secondment.
  • Remuneration: Social, Community, Home Care & Disability Services (SCHCADS) Industry Award 2010, Level 6 Pay point negotiable
    (plus 10% Superannuation and optional Salary Packaging)
  • Accountability: Principal Solicitor

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Train and develop the WSCLC Community Justice Legal Team in relation to employment law.

SELECTION CRITERIA FOR THIS POSITION

  1. Qualified to practice as a solicitor in NSW and hold a practising certificate.
  2. Demonstrated experience in preparing casework and in undertaking court work and advocacy in the practice area of employment law.
  3. Superior oral and written communication skills, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
  4. Ability to work without close supervision, set priorities, organise and manage own workloads and meet deadlines.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment, both small and large.
  6. Understanding of and commitment to the work of community legal centres
  7. Demonstrated experience in providing guidance and advice in relation to employment law matters.
  8. Sound computer skills and ability to type own reports, court documents, letters and undertake data entry.
  9. Strong understanding of employment law.

DESIRABLE

  1. Experience with CLASS (database system)
