WSCLC’s Community Legal Centre Program (CLCP) provides free legal advice and other legal and related services to the community of Western Sydney. Purpose led NFP organisation

The CLCP team provides legal services via specialised legal teams:

  • Aboriginal Legal Access Program Legal Service.
  • Community Justice legal service.
  • Family Relations Legal Service.
  • Multicultural Legal Service.
  • Outreach Legal Service.

ABOUT THIS ROLE

This role is located within our legal practice and will be primarily based at Parramatta with outreach required to other sites, including the Hawkesbury.

We are looking for an experienced civil lawyer who enjoys working with a range of clients from diverse backgrounds. The role will involve establishing partnerships and legal clinics in flood affected areas and developing Community Legal Education and publications tailored to flood related legal issues.

  • Location of Employment: Parramatta with some work at outreach sites.
  • Status: Full Time, 35 hours per week (12-month contract from date of commencement)
  • Remuneration: Social, Community, Home Care & Disability Services (SCHCADS) Industry Award 2010, Level 5 to a 6 Pay point 1 (plus 10.5% Superannuation). Negotiable salary depending upon experience
  • Accountability: Acting Principal Solicitor

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • All aspects of legal service delivery including Court/Tribunal advocacy and representation, casework, advice and community legal education.
  • Administration, file management, data entry and conflict checking.
  • Provide comprehensive reports on service delivery activities and plans and participate in casework meetings, file reviews and other team activities.

SELECTION CRITERIA FOR THIS POSITION

  • Qualified to practice as a solicitor in NSW and hold a practising certificate.
  • Demonstrated experience in disaster related legal work
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing casework and in undertaking court work and advocacy in the practice area of civil law, including insurance claims, financial hardship, tenancy, centrelink claims
  • Demonstrated ability to assist with the development and implementation of legal service delivery projects such as community education programs.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work without close supervision, set priorities, organise and manage own workloads and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment, both small and large.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the work of community legal centres and demonstrated understanding of issues facing the priority clients groups assisted by the Centre, in particular rural, regional and remote clients.
  • Sound computer skills and ability to type own reports, court documents, letters and undertake data entry.
  • NSW Drivers Licence

DESIRABLE

  • Experience with CLASS (database system).
