Mind Medicine Australia (www.mindmedicineaustralia.org) is a DGR-1 registered charity working to promote the development of regulatory approved and research-backed psychedelic medicines in Australia to assist with the treatment of a number of mental illnesses. This is a major paradigm-shifting opportunity in the treatment of mental illness.

The charity was founded by social sector philanthropists Peter Hunt AM and Tania de Jong AM. Tania is one of the nation’s leading social entrepreneurs, creatives and inspirational innovators and Peter is one of Australia’s leading investment bankers and philanthropists.

Key projects that MMA is focused on are:

  • Awareness building through education and events and the promotion of a major International Medical Summit on psychedelic medicine and mental illness in November 2020
  • The development of an accredited therapist training program to ensure that qualified therapists are available as and when this therapy becomes legal in Australia
  • The development of a preferred legal and ethical framework for psychedelic therapy in Australia
  • Arrangements for medicine availability in Australia at low cost, as and when these medicines become legal for therapeutic purposes
  • The establishment of a Centre of Excellence in Psychedelic Therapy in Australia for the Asia Pacific region with close links to key universities and industry in both Australia and overseas
  • The development of strong international connections to maximise knowledge and awareness in Australia

The Role:

Reporting to the Executive Director, you will manage and grow existing relationships with supporters of Mind Medicine Australia and strive to secure new funding opportunities, partnerships and welcome new supporters to our charity. You’ll bring a passion for giving, exceptional relationship management, organisational and influencing skills and strong networks. You'll join at an exciting period of growth for the organisation and play a critical role in introducing a new paradigm in the treatment of mental health.

Primary Purpose and Responsibilities:

The Grants, Partnerships and Fundraising Officer is responsible for assisting with funding applications and acquittals, recruiting and retaining high value donors, sponsors and partners. This is done by building long term relationships with our partners, prospecting, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of supporters and identifying and writing philanthropic and government submissions for funding, in order to build and strengthen fundraising sources and maximise income for the charity’s important work.

You will be responsible for:

  1. Securing Partnerships for our inaugural International Summit on Medicine-Assisted Therapies for Mental Illness being held in November 2020
  2. Securing and nurturing ongoing partnerships with sponsors/donors/philanthropists
  3. Grant application submissions and relationship building with trusts and foundations
  4. Support with Donors/philanthropy pledges and newsletters
  5. Assistance with other fundraising initiatives and events
  6. Manage and grow existing relationships to maximise revenue for the organisation
  7. Work with the Executive Director and broader team to develop and manage the strategy for the donor/philanthropist journey experience, including engagement and communications, acquisition, reactivation, renewal and upgrade
  8. Represent Mind Medicine Australia at events and presentations
  9. Work across the Mind Medicine Australia team to effectively segment, engage and communicate with our donor base
  10. Maintain and update CRM noting all communications accurately and promptly
  11. Provide regular and transparent reporting and workflow updates to the Executive Director

Candidate Profile:

  • A demonstrated track record and success in writing and receiving grants and donations and building trusted long-term partnerships and sponsorships
  • An understanding of and experience in philanthropy and the not-for-profit sector or comparable experience influencing investment in programs for community benefit
  • Exceptional relationship, influencing and stakeholder management skills with the ability to identify stakeholder needs; what they value and how to motivate and communicate with them to secure financial support
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tailor messaging to a variety of audiences
  • Has a results orientation approach and desire to consistently deliver great outcomes
  • Strategic and analytical thinking; ability to identify future opportunities and tackle a problem by using a logical, systematic, sequential approach
  • Adaptable and courageous
  • A strong understanding of CRM and donor management systems
  • Excellent presentation skills and the capacity to deal with people at all levels and areas of expertise
  • High competency in all key IT programs
  • Excellent attention to detail

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Outstanding relationship management
  • Demonstrated and successful track record in fundraising, grants and partnerships
  • Demonstrated high level written, verbal and presentation skills, including writing materials targeted to different audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, and collaboratively and flexibly as part of a team to achieve goals
  • Excellent time management, administrative and organisational skills with the ability to plan workload, prioritise tasks, meet deadlines and adapt to changing circumstances
  • Ability to work collaboratively to seek relevant inputs and prepare effective and inspiring propositions for support from individuals, families, major organisations, Trusts & Foundations and Government.

Capability summary:

  • A tertiary qualification is preferred - Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area
  • At least 3 years’ work experience in a similar role

Mind Medicine Australia is seeking to establish safe and effective psychedelic-assisted treatments for mental illness in Australia. As a registered charity (DGR-1 status), we are supporting clinical research and working towards regulatory-approved and evidence-based psychedelic-assisted therapies. We operate as a nexus between medical practitioners, academia, government, regulatory bodies, philanthropists, and other partners.

Mind Medicine Australia is focused specifically on the clinical application of medicinal psilocybin and medicinal MDMA for certain mental illnesses. We do not advocate for non-clinical use of psychedelics, MDMA, or any other prohibited substances, nor do we advocate for any changes to the law with respect to non-clinical use.
