About the role

The Lived Experience organisational function works within Mind’s support hub and drives the implementation of mental health system reforms and service innovations informed by lived expertise, intersectionality, human rights and social justice.  

The Lived Experience Design and Development team lead an organisation-wide program of work to design, develop, implement and embed lived expertise-led initiatives and approaches, in collaboration with the Senior Consultant, Lived Experience, and Lived Experience Workforce team as well as teams across Mind’s support hub and operations.

We are seeking a self-motivated, compassionate Lived Experience Learning Lead for a Fixed Term, Full Time (38 hours per week) opportunity at our office in the Burnley area. This national role will oversee the implementation, quality and continuous improvement of lived experience learning programs across Mind, including Mind Recovery College. The role will be responsible for ensuring fidelity of lived experience learning content to Recovery College principles, lived experience values and human rights. 

Drawing from their lived expertise, the Lived Experience Learning Lead will also support the development of the lived experience workforce by facilitating a range of learning opportunities and providing discipline specific mentoring and supervision.  

Key responsibilities

  • Have a publicly disclosed personal/consumer or family/carer lived experience, along with demonstrated lived expertise and designated work experience that is equal to the level of the position.
  • Apply lived experience leadership principles to lead and coordinate the delivery of lived experience learning programs via Mind Recovery College in services across Australia, ensuring fidelity to the recovery college model and principles of intentional peer support, co-production and adult learning.
  • Work with Lived Experience Workforce Manager and partners to support the development of the Lived Experience Workforce through orientation, training, discipline specific supervision and communities of practice.
  • Establish processes for regular co-reflection and formal review of lived experience learning programs to ensure learning opportunities support connection and community and align with contemporary consumer and family/carer perspectives, research evidence, and practice wisdom.
  • Prepare and submit reporting in relation to the program including strategic advice, updates, insights and analysis to relevant groups including the Executive Leadership Team, Senior Managers, General Managers and other leadership teams.

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Peer Work, Intentional Peer Support Core Training, Training and Assessment, Community Development, Health Promotion or other health related field and/or equivalent experience.
  • Lived experience of mental health challenges and recovery, or other form of relevant lived experience, e.g. as a family, carer or supporter of for someone living with mental health challenges is essential.
  • Experience with mentoring and coaching people with lived experience and/or trained to provide consumer perspective supervision or family/carer perspective supervision is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and ability to draw on the broader lived experience knowledge base, including Intentional Peer Support, Recovery College and co-production.
  • Demonstrated organisational skills and experience in developing, designing and facilitating inclusive and trauma-informed education and training based on adult learning principles.
