About the role

The Lived Experience organisational function works within Mind’s support hub and drives the implementation of mental health system reforms and service innovations informed by lived expertise, intersectionality, human rights and social justice.

The Lived Experience Design and Development team lead an organisation-wide program of work to design, develop, implement and embed lived expertise-led initiatives and approaches, in collaboration with the Senior Consultant, Lived Experience, and Lived Experience Workforce team as well as teams across Mind’s support hub and operations.

We are seeking a self-motivated, compassionate Lived Experience Development Lead for a permanent, Full Time (38 hours per week) opportunity at our office in the Burnley area. This is a designated lived expertise role that will implement new lived expertise-led initiatives and further develop and evolve existing practice approaches to better align with lived expertise values and principles, including human rights.

You will work as part of the Lived Experience Design and Development team, and will focus on translating service design insights and initiatives into practice.  The role will involve leading and managing implementation projects and building strong relationships across Mind’s support hub and operations to create effective systems, processes, products, and practices to embed lived expertise-led innovations.

This national role requires practice experience and skills in implementation, change management and continuous improvement to test and refine ideas and build workforce and organisational capability to sustain lived expertise-led service and practice innovations across Mind. 

Key responsibilities

  • Demonstrated understanding of and ability to explain and promote Lived Experience as a key driver of service design and development.
  • Build relationships with lived expertise leaders and form connections with the broader lived experience community through active participation in sector-wide lived experience initiatives.
  • Initiate, plan, implement and evaluate a program of work that builds on service design projects and initiatives and aligns with operational plans and strategic priorities.
  • Develop and lead implementation and establishment projects within available resources, including establishing the conditions required for systems change, data analysis and synthesis, translating service design insights and initiatives into service or practice innovations, and evaluating their effectiveness.
  • Prepare executive briefs, business cases and content for tender submissions or funding applications to gain organisational support and secure resources to scale up and embed innovations in practice.

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Peer Work, Intentional Peer Support Core Training, Health Promotion, Allied Health or other health related field and/or equivalent experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of contemporary approaches to implementation, change management and continuous improvement and ability to demonstrate their practical application within Mental Health or Community Services, or not for profit organisations is required.
  • Lived experience of mental health challenges and recovery, or other form of relevant lived experience, e.g. as a family member, carer or supporter of someone living with mental health challenges, is essential.
  • Experience and expertise in working directly with people with mental health challenges, and with their families and carers, ideally in a designated lived expertise role.
  • Demonstrated understanding of mental health system reform and commitment to human rights and intersectional inclusion.
