About the role

The Community Recovery Program (CRP), a component of the North East Area Mental Health Service, provides 24/7 residential psycho-social rehabilitation for clients with psychiatric disability. Recovery-focused support, treatment and care is shared in partnership with Austin Health. Clients move directly from the community to CRP or ‘step-down’ from a Psychiatric In-Patient Unit, Secure Extended Care Unit (SECU) or Forensicare at Thomas Embling Hospital.

We are seeking a compassionate, driven Community Mental Health Practitioner - Team Leader for a 12 month fixed term, full time opportunity in the Heidelberg area. You will provide leadership and support to a dedicated team delivering quality recovery oriented services to clients. The Team Leader is integral as a practice lead to the Practitioners by providing supervision, mentoring and coaching.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and model effective practice to staff working with clients, provide support to families and carers, and plan and deliver group work.
  • Support clients by delivering high quality service and facilitate positive educational and social experiences.
  • Collaborate with a range of services and the community to ensure a co-ordinated and integrated response to client recovery goals.
  • Manage administrative tasks including rostering, leave coverage, facilitating handovers and planning budget expenditure.

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other health-related field.
  • Expertise in working with people with mental health issues, complex needs and interacting with families and carers.
  • Capability to effectively coach and develop a team to achieve best quality service outcomes and provide professional supervision.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Community Services sector and capacity to build strong relationships with agencies, clinical providers and key stakeholders.
