About this opportunity

The Suicide Prevention model provides support to people most at‐risk of suicide: people who have attempted suicide or those who are experiencing a suicidal crisis.

The role of a Suicide Prevention Support Coordinator will help a person stay safe and connect with existing health and community services during a period of high risk and vulnerability. The role will ensure that people are supported to stay safe, to access treatments and to connect with supports to help avoid another suicide attempt.

The Support Coordinator will provide continuity of care/care coordination by engaging with individuals at risk following a suicide attempt or suicidal crisis and acting as a link between relevant supports/services. In addition, the Support Coordinator will work alongside local families and communities in delivering community awareness raising programs and supports with the aim of encouraging help seeking and reduction of stigma associated with suicide.

As the ideal candidate, you will possess the following:

  • Tertiary Qualifications in a social science or related discipline
  • Experience in the area of crisis intervention and trauma response including self-care management practices
  • Experience consulting and working collaboratively with communities and other stakeholders
  • Experience in the delivery of community development, education and capacity building initiatives, with a particular emphasis on working with diverse communities and groups
  • Knowledge of current trends and practices in educational and community development suicide prevention work
  • The ability to communicate and model a vision that generates enthusiasm and commitment
  • A current valid Driver's License
  • A satisfactory Police Records Check and Working With Children Check, prior to commencement
