Mental Health Victoria (MHV) is the independent peak body for mental health and wellbeing in Victoria. We work to ensure every Victorian has access to the enablers of positive mental health, and we provide trusted policy leadership at a time of major system reform following the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System.
We are looking for a Director – Policy, Advocacy & Campaigns to provide senior, specialist policy and advocacy expertise during a critical period of mental health reform in Victoria. Reporting to the Executive Director- Policy, Advocacy and programs, this is a hands-on, highly autonomous role focused on developing strong, evidence-informed policy advice and advocacy that reflects sector and community perspectives and makes a real difference.
In this role, you will research and develop policy positions and submissions, track emerging issues across mental health and related systems, contribute to advocacy and campaign activity, and represent MHV in policy forums and consultations. You will work across complex and evolving policy environments, translating research, data and lived experience into clear, credible, and influential advice for government and stakeholders.
You are an experienced policy and advocacy practitioner who enjoys working with complexity and ambiguity. You can bring together evidence, lived experience and system insight and turn this into clear, practical and persuasive policy advice.
You have a strong understanding of mental health systems and reform, communicate clearly and confidently in writing and in person, and build respectful, trusting relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. You are comfortable working independently, managing competing priorities, and working in ways that reflect values of equity, inclusion and integrity.
At MHV, you will work at the centre of mental health reform in Victoria, alongside committed colleagues and sector partners who are passionate about equity, impact and system improvement. We offer flexible working arrangements and a supportive, values-led culture.
MHV offers salary packaging, a great way to increase the value of your salary by allowing you to receive a portion of your income as tax-free or tax-deductible benefits.
