About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced people leader to lead one of MGA's most important student support services.

As Advocacy Manager, you will lead a dedicated team delivering advocacy and migration services that help graduate students navigate academic, administrative and migration matters. Working with students during some of the most challenging moments of their university journey, your team plays a vital role in helping students understand their options, resolve issues and achieve positive outcomes.

Reporting to the Executive Officer, you will provide day-to-day operational leadership of the Advocacy and Migration Services team, ensuring services are responsive, high-quality and student-centred. You will supervise and support professional staff, oversee complex casework, monitor service demand and workloads, contribute to continuous service improvement and build productive relationships with University stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day delivery of MGA's Advocacy and Migration Services.
  • Supervise, mentor and develop a team of advocacy and migration professionals.
  • Provide leadership and oversight of complex student matters, supporting staff to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Monitor service demand, coordinate workloads and ensure timely, high-quality service delivery.
  • Implement service delivery plans and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure services are delivered in accordance with relevant legislation, professional standards and organisational policies.
  • Build productive relationships with University stakeholders and external organisations.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams to increase awareness and accessibility of MGA's advocacy and migration services.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations for the Executive Officer on service delivery, emerging issues and opportunities for improvement.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification with at least four years' subsequent relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience, education and training.
  • Experience leading a client-focused service or operational team.
  • Experience supervising, coaching and developing staff within a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
  • Experience implementing service delivery plans, quality assurance processes or continuous improvement initiatives.
  • The ability to exercise sound professional judgement, manage competing priorities and support staff managing complex matters.
  • An understanding of governance, risk management and compliance within a professional service environment.
  • A commitment to delivering inclusive, responsive and student-centred services.

Experience in higher education, advocacy, community services, legal, migration, government or another professional service environment will be highly regarded.

Additional information

The role operates across multiple campuses, and regular travel between campuses is an inherent requirement of the position.

Some evening and weekend work may be required to support student engagement activities and organisational initiatives.
