House and Yard Maintenance - Plus Supported Employment Leadership

Meliora Support Services

Join Meliora’s Brisbane team in a hands-on role with real purpose

Meliora Support Services is a charity-based organisation working across disability and aged care in Brisbane and the South Burnett. In Brisbane, our HQ is based in Aspley, and at this time most of our clients are on the Northside.

We’re looking for someone who can bring together practical gardening, maintenance, and supportive skills in one role.

This is not just a handyman and yard maintenance job. A key part of the role is working alongside a person with disability in supported employment, completing jobs together, helping build their confidence and work skills, and being a steady part of their day.

About the role

This role combines:

  • mowing, gardening, weeding, and yard clean-ups
  • house maintenance and practical jobs around the home
  • occasional handyman-type jobs, depending on your skillset
  • working alongside and supporting a person with disability on shift

That means most days you’ll be out on the tools doing practical work, and some of those days you’ll also be helping guide, encourage, and support a co-worker with disability while the same jobs get done.

It’s a hybrid role, and it needs someone who can do well in both sides of it.

What we’re looking for

We’re after somebody who is:

  • practical, capable, and good with their hands
  • reasonably fit and comfortable with physical work
  • reliable and consistent
  • respectful and easy to work with
  • able to communicate clearly and follow directions
  • patient, steady, and good with people
  • willing to support someone else to learn, contribute, and work well alongside them

This role will not suit someone who only likes tools and would rather avoid people. It needs someone who can do the job properly and be a positive, supportive presence for somebody else on shift at the same time. We understand that's not alway easy to balance and achieve, so we're here to work with you, to collaboratively problem solve and support you - rather than just expect things to work out like they appear on paper.

You will also need to have the following or a willingness to obtain:

  • Driver's License (you will generally be driving the Meliora ute)
  • Blue Card
  • NDIS Worker Check (NDISWC)
  • Federal Police Check
  • First Aid and CPR (Every 12 months)
  • NDIS Training Modules

What we offer

From our side, we offer:

  • above-award rates for on your SCHADS level (based on qualifications and experience)
  • options ranging from casual, to part-time and full-time work
  • More money in your pocket: As a PBI Charity, we offer full income packaging, including for casual workers. You can earn a large portion of your salary tax-free, plus meal/entertainment benefits. This may effectively boost your take-home pay by thousands.
  • a caring and well-supported team
  • clear communication from management
  • practical work that is varied and satisfying
  • a role that combines hands-on tasks with supported employment done properly
  • the chance to be part of a charity-based organisation doing useful work in the community

If you want a role where your practical skills are valued, your reliability counts, and your work helps someone else build confidence and capacity at the same time, we’d love to hear from you.
