The Hester Hornbrook Academy is an independent specialist school run by Melbourne City Mission. The Academy provides flexible, community-based learning opportunities for young people aged 15 to 25 years, across Melbourne. About the role:

The Hester Hornbrook Academy is in an exciting time of expansion and is currently seeking a part time Educational Support Officer to work within the program.

The Education Support Worker is expected to work closely and collegiately with the Educator/trainer and youth worker in the classroom. A positive, professional and mutually respectful relationship with the classroom staff is critical to the success of the model of education delivery.

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Assist students on an individual or group basis in specific learning areas
• Assist in the preparation of student resources and equipment
• Prepare basic curriculum support resources for individualised student learning
• Work as part of a Classroom Team – Youth worker and Educator, to observe how students are progressing with a task and difficulties they encounter and provide assistance where needed
• Work as part of a Classroom Team to develop Individual Education Plans for each student who is part of the HHA program
• Support the learning, development, physical and emotional needs of the students during classroom time
• Accurately maintain all necessary records maintain full, accurate and current records of all students in the program; attendance, academic and behavioural and to input data into the Student Management System
• Participate in relevant professional development opportunities and maintain up to date knowledge regarding developments in the education sector
• Always operate in a professional manner, meeting legislative and regulatory requirements as well as the policies and procedures of The Hester Hornbrook Academy
• Undertake other duties, as required by the Head of Campus, Leader Educational Needs Assessment of Principal Class members.

Skills & Experience include but are not limited to:

Essential:

• Ability to engage with and support young people in an educational setting
• An understanding of trauma informed practice and an ability to work alongside young people with a range of complex needs
• Ability to ensure confidentiality of information
• Capacity to work positively within a team environment
• Demonstrated capacity to work flexibly and the ability to manage a range of competing demands
• Capacity to meet the physical requirements of the role, including bending, sitting/standing and lifting
• Current Working with Children Check
• An understanding of the requirements for ensuring child safety
• Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft suite, TEAMS and a Student Management System

Desirable:

• Experience in a flexible learning setting
• Certificate IV in Education Support or relevant experience
