The Opportunity

We are seeking experienced General Practitioners to work for a national After Hours GP (AHGP) helpline. Our AHGP’s perform a vital role providing the delivery of after- hours GP telephone and video consultations from home for the general public. This includes the initial assessment, advice and management of symptomatic callers referred via our Nurse Triage service. The role operates within an approved scope of service and is required to adhere to various client contractual requirements in the delivery of this service including performance and efficiency metrics. The AHGP team also provides clinical support and guidance to their peers. 

This role has a direct reporting line to the Clinical Manager for operational, performance and resourcing concerns and reports indirectly to the Senior Executive Medical Director on clinical, education and quality issues. Working autonomously and from the comfort of your own home office, you have the confidence and proven ability to operate independently without immediate supervisory support. Performance achievement and development is primarily self-driven and managed within the scope of Medibank Health’s leading edge support technology, training and services, complemented by inclusion within our extensive network of medical professionals.  

About You

Requirements include: 

  • MBBS, MD or equivalent qualifications which confer eligibility for registration as a medical practitioner in Australia.
  • Current registration as a medical practitioner with AHPRA.
  • Three years GP experience (with a minimum 1 year current Australian GP experience) post RACGP Fellowship (and current Membership). 

Ideally you will have had previous experience in tele-consultations and worked with a diverse demographic of patients. You have already developed excellent critical thinking capability, strong decision making and problem solving skills. You are comfortable with technology and recognising that this is a computer based role, you possess an intermediate level of computer skills and comfortable in navigating software, typing and talking at the same time. To be able to demonstrate these will play a massive part in you succeeding in this role!

We are looking for GPs who are able to work a minimum 15 hours per week. Rosters are provided with reasonable advance notice.

Hours of operation of the service are 6pm - 8am Monday to Friday, and from 12am Saturday - 8am Mondays. We have a range of shifts available (from 3 hours to 8 hours) with shifts aligned to meet current business requirements.
