The Opportunity

We are looking for a highly motivated (Post-doctoral Scientist) to join the Heart Regeneration group.

A key part of your role will see you working on the molecular mechanisms underlying congenital heart disease. As our new Research Officer you will work on projects using induced pluripotent stem cell models to investigate these molecular mechanisms while designing and conduct independent research experiments to prepare results for publication.

This role will see you liaising with a variety of stakeholders therefore, it is imperative that you have excellent communication and engagement skills to build and foster relationships.

To be successful in this role you will ideally have experience working with tissue culture and cardiovascular biology, project management, microscopy and sound research skills.

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Independently culture and differentiate human induced pluripotent stem cells to cardiovascular lineages.
  • Work with senior researchers to develop protocols for advanced cellular phenotyping.
  • Collection of high quality data and data analysis.
  • General laboratory organisation and maintenance.
  • Design and conduct experiments independently.
  • Administrative research duties including the preparation of Ethics Committee applications and reports.
  • Contribution to the preparation of research proposal submissions to internal and external funding agencies.
  • Preparation of manuscripts.

You Demonstrate:

  • A PhD in the area of cell biology, molecular biology or bioinformatics.
  • Publication track record in high profile stem cell research journals.
  • Experience with human pluripotent stem cell culture and differentiation.
  • Detailed understanding of cell cycle and experience in analysis of cell cycle including FUCCI system.
  • Experience in confocal microscopy and/or flow cytometry.
  • Experience with RNA-seq, ChIP-seq or ATAC-seq.
  • Experience with Western blotting, genome editing techniques such as CRISPR/Cas9 and pluripotent stem cell culture.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Evidence of ability to initiate, execute and complete research projects.
  • Willingness to up skill in either cell biology or bioinformatics depending on current expertise.

Desirable

  • Experience in high through put screening technologies, including CRISPR/Cas9 or RNAi.
  • Relevant PhD/Doctoral qualification and relevant postdoctoral experience.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent time management, organisational and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated relevant computer skills and an understanding of a range of research methodologies and their application in empirical research.
  • Experience in knowledge sharing, development, mentoring and support of employees and students.
