Material Institute is a registered charity working with children, young people and families in communities across Lutruwita/Tasmania. Our flagship program, 24 Carrot Gardens, supports kitchen gardens across 24 schools statewide, alongside a growing range of community programs and social enterprises.

Our Content Team is recruiting for a Social Media & Visual Content Coordinator. This role is ideal for candidates who are passionate content creators looking to build their career in the social media space. Candidates will ideally already be using social platforms daily, understand how to build online traction, and have a skill for storytelling that makes our impact visible.

Functional skills in Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, video editing and scheduling software are required, while any complementary skills and expertise in graphic design are highly desired.

The Role

  • Capture content of our daily programming in both video and photo formats, ensuring our accounts are active, compelling and telling our story.
  • Ensure content is succinct, meaningful, and scheduled in a way that supports the overarching strategy.
  • Ensure the aesthetics and voice of our social media channels maintain the highest standards, are in line with internal brand guidelines and reflect the artistic origins of Material Institute.
  • Grow our social media presence with intention and strategy, engaging with like-minded accounts to build our network and expand our audience.
  • Support the Content Manager with industry research, staying up to date with the latest algorithmic changes and social media trends.
  • Design and create various on-brand graphic assets such as product labels, flyers, posters, social media posts and website banners, using Adobe Suite & Canva.
  • Contribute to quarterly reporting by providing relevant data and insights on all social media accounts.
  • With direction, contribute to, create and support the delivery of EDMs, including our seasonal digital newsletter, ComPOST.
  • Effectively communicate with the Content Manager to provide progress updates, resolve issues, manage new requests and perform general troubleshooting.

The You

  • Lives and breathes social media, Instagram and Facebook in particular
  • Keeping up to date with current trends and understanding the nuances of various formats (Reel, GIF, Live, Carousels etc) and when to use them.
  • Recognises what moments create great content and is confident with mobile video shooting and efficient editing.
  • Understands the balance between pace and detail in the digital world, coupled with the judgment to problem-solve autonomously and the awareness to seek support when needed.
  • Confident with a broad range of design and scheduling software, particularly Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud (primarily Photoshop and InDesign), Meta Business Suite, Later and bonus points for Ads Manager, aligned with Material Institute's purpose and motivated by the opportunity for storytelling with young people in educational and community settings.
  • Brings a personal connection or curiosity to the core of our work, whether it be all things soil and compost, a unique arts practice, growing food or a deep connection with purpose-driven charity work.
