Job Description

This position

This position involves the delivery of targeted casework services within a specific practice and therapeutic framework with young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, in accordance with the standards required by the Office of the Children’s Guardian. You will work collaboratively with young people aged 12 to 24 years either residing in one of our Specialist Homelessness Services homes or living in the community to which you will Outreach.

Through collaborative casework and goal planning, you will empower the young person to be actively involved in education, training, employment, and community activities to promote independent living skills. Additionally, once goals are identified you will build and maintain trusting relationships with stakeholders and services to support the young person to develop pathways into stable accommodation, with a large focus on family preservation if possible.

Desired Skills and Experience

Essential Criteria:

To be successful in this position, you must meet the Essential Criteria below:

  • Identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person and is accepted as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander in the community in which he or she lives
  • Relevant tertiary qualification (Social Work, Psychology or equivalent).
  • 2 years’ experience in case management.
  • Demonstrated experience working with clients, including young people 12-24, who have experienced complex trauma
  • Demonstrated experience working with the families and young people who have been in contact with the child protection system.
  • Previous experience in residential or foster care contexts and understanding of child development.
  • Experience working with families towards restoration or contact arrangements.
  • Experience working with linguistically and culturally diverse communities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of child protection and social services practices or policies.
  • The ability to work autonomously and contribute to an effective team environment.
  • High standard of professional ethical behaviour and sound understanding of boundary issues.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificate.
  • Current Working with Children Check.
  • Willingness to undergo a National Criminal History Check.
  • Unrestricted NSW driver’s licence (minimum Provisional 2 licence).
