Residential Care Workers - Active Nights - Eastern Region

We are looking for experienced professional's with a demonstrated commitment to achieving quality outcomes for young people. There are permanent part time opportunities available, great some for someone looking for a work life balance who has day time commitments.

In this rewarding role, you will act as a support and mentor to a young person living within our homes. By utilising a range of skills from your toolbox such as empathy, patience, conflict resolution and negotiation, you will interact therapeutically and positively by spending quality time with them at home cooking meals, undertaking household duties and participating in daily general duties.

Providing exceptional care for our young people takes a village, and you will work collaboratively with other professionals including fellow care workers, DHHS, case managers and therapeutic practitioners. The role requires the successful candidate to complete online reports, update records and complete other compliance requirements as needed.

As this role predominately requires work in the evenings and overnight, it will involve providing care and supervision for restless sleepers, negotiating bed times and any other function required to ensure a safe and secure household for our young people during the night.

Our homes operate on a 24/7 basis, thus successful applicants must be available to work a roster including evenings, overnights, weekends and public holidays.

About you

While this role is highly rewarding, it comes with its challenges as our young people often come with a trauma background and can be volatile and unpredictable, so we require staff who are well balanced, empathetic and understanding and are willing to go the extra mile to keep them safe.

In addition to this, to be successful in this role you must have:

  • Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention (Residential and Out of Home Care), or other similar or relevant tertiary qualifications
  • A commitment towards the principles and practice of quality care in residential settings for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged young people
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and respect for, cultural and linguistic diversity (CALD), including cultural safety for children from CALD backgrounds
  • Excellent communication skills, including an ability to engage and interact well with young people and working collaboratively with other staff and professionals
  • Flexibility in working hours – particularly night shifts

MacKillop is committed to being a child safe organisation. Applicants will be required to undergo psychometric testing, a national criminal record checks and have an employment working with children check.

You must:

  • Be available to work on a flexible basis, including evenings, overnights, weekends and public holidays.
  • Hold a current and valid employee-type, Working with Children’s Check (WWCC).
  • Hold a current and valid Victorian Driver’s License.
  • Attend a total of 2 weeks of mandatory induction training.
  • Complete or satisfy the minimum mandatory qualification of a Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention (Residential and Out of Home Care). If you hold a similar or relevant qualification, you may still be required to complete top up units to meet this requirement. MacKillop will facilitate your enrolment into a government funded course; however, if you have already accessed your Government Funding, you may be required to cover the cost.
