Western Sydney MRC is a not for profit organisation working with newly arrived migrants, refugees, and diverse communities. We champion our diverse community to be empowered, informed and connected. ​

We provide a range of wrap-around programs supporting our flagship settlement services. These include family services, playgroups, disability and mental health supports, youth activities, and a variety of information-based sessions community leadership programs.​

ABOUT THE ROLE:

We are looking to welcome a warm, nurturing, dedicated and passionate Early Childhood Teacher who will assist and lead in the delivery of quality early childhood programs for refugees and asylum seeker children (0-5 years of age) and their families.

Within this role you will:

  • Provide quality early childhood programs with a focus on early literacy and numeracy foundations for young CALD refugees and asylum seeker children (0-5 years of age) and their families.
  • Prepare children and their families for successful transitions to preschool and primary schools.
  • Plan activities to develop creativity and an interest in learning, physical skills, social skills and self-confidence using a variety of equipment and materials.
  • Build the capacity of families and CALD community members to support the healthy development of young children and promote health and safety concepts.
  • Develop community-based resources and increase the availability of resources for learning and parenting programs.
  • Ensure timely and accurate records and reporting of programs/projects including the use of the online client management system
  • Increase collaboration with partner agencies in service delivery.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential criteria:

  • Minimum a three-year Early Childhood Teaching degree
  • Comprehensive knowledge and the application of the National Quality Framework and Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF).
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver inclusive programs that are respectful of diversity and accommodate additional needs.
  • Proven ability to be a reflective practitioner of performance and practice.
  • Competent across the MS Office suite of products.
  • Able to supply a Working with Children’s Check, First Aid certificate and suitable Police Clearance
  • Bilingual- Arabic speaking preferred

Desirable criteria:

  • Abecedarian 3a Practitioner will be highly regarded
  • Recent Leadership experience/training will be highly regarded

EMPLOYMENT PROCEDURE

At the WSMRC, staff are employed under an Equal Employment Opportunity policy. All applicants are assessed under the same criteria and via the same process.

An employment subcommittee will convene and follow the following process:

  1. Cull the applications according to the identified selection criteria.
  2. Applicants will not be interviewed if they do not meet the essential criteria. Depending on the number and quality of applicants, the desirable criteria may be considered. In cases of an extremely large number of applicants meeting the desirable and essential criteria, the panel will select the applicant who meets the criteria best.
  3. Applicants selected will be interviewed. All selected applicants will be asked the same questions.
  4. Depending on the position, each candidate may be asked to participate in a short test assessing specific criteria (for example–a typing test, writing skills, or computer skills).
  5. Referees of the best applicant/s will be contacted
  6. The employment panel will identify a successful candidate and conditions of offer of employment (i.e. wages, probation period)
  7. Convener of the panel will make an offer of employment to the successful candidate, initially by phone and subsequently in writing
  8. Unsuccessful candidates will be informed in writing.
