About the Role

Part time and casual positions working directly with children and young people with trauma background and significant disability in a 24/7 residential setting with fortnightly rotating rosters which may include active night shifts and weekend shifts. The successful candidate will be part of establishing a new therapeutic care home in the Lismore Area (within a 1 hour radius of Lismore).

The children and young people you will support have come from backgrounds of trauma, abuse and neglect and so, it is expected that you will support our clients that display challenging behaviours including verbal and physical aggression in your day to day work. As these children and young people also have significant disability, you will be required to assist with activities of daily living including personal care and medication administration.

The successful candidate will have a Diploma in community services or similar, experience working with children and young people with trauma background and/or disabilities and an understanding of providing best support to children and young people with intellectual disability and challenging behaviours living in a residential setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day to day care, supervision and transport to children and young people
  • Actively participate in activities and encourage community engagement whilst increasing competencies of young people
  • Develop, implement and monitor individual plans 
  • Follow medication, hygiene and meal management plans
  • Crisis intervention management
  • Lifting/manual handling
  • Provision of personal care
  • Support the involvement of family
  • Maintenance of progress notes and report writing

Skills & Experience

  • Diploma in Community Services, Youth Work or similar
  • Experience in working with people with a disability and/or children and young people.
  • A current First Aid Certificate
  • A current unrestricted Australian Driver Licence
  • Ability to work various shifts (including sleepover & active nights) throughout the week

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and Working with Children Check.
