The Lost Dogs’ Home is one of Victoria’s most iconic animal welfare organisations, caring for around 18,000 lost and abandoned dogs and cats each year. We provide a wide range of animal welfare and community programs and services to help give animals and we pride ourselves on employing passionate individuals who demonstrate a strong personal connection to animals, the community and the cause.

The Role:

Due to an internal promotion, The Lost Dogs’ Home seeking a qualified and experienced People and Culture Advisor to join the team in a permanent capacity. In this exciting and diverse role, you will provide expert HR generalist advice and support to the wider business and contribute to HR initiatives and projects to support to the delivery of the P&C Team strategy. In addition, the role will coordinate the internal communications function at the Home to ensure that our diverse staff group are kept up to date about information relevant to their role.

This role is a fantastic opportunity for an early career HR professional to develop their skills and experience within a supportive team environment. Based in our North Melbourne location, with occasional travel to Cranbourne, you will work closely with our diverse team of Animal Management, Veterinary and Corporate employees and your work will have a meaningful impact on our staff and in turn, the animals within our care.

The role will:

  • Provide timely and accurate advice regarding HR policies, procedures, employment legislation, talent acquisition and change management.
  • Recruit, onboard and offboard employees.
  • Develop and execute an internal communications plan, identifying and working with key contributors to deliver relevant, timely and tailored content.
  • Advise and coach managers across a wide range of Employee and Industrial Relations issues, with support from the Director People and Culture.
  • Influence managers and work with them to deal effectively and appropriately with the management of a range of performance, conduct and compliance issues.
  • Deliver high impact, fit for purpose learning and development initiatives to support business objectives.
  • Take the lead in developing and implementing a calendar of diversity and wellbeing activities

Our Ideal Candidate will bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in HR management or equivalent plus a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Human Resources role.
  • Demonstrated experiencing using HRIS/applicant tracking system as an administrator or super user.
  • Experience working across the full spectrum of HR disciplines including talent acquisition and development, employee retention, employee relations, organisational effectiveness, compensation practices and diversity.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with operational managers advising on and resolving ER/IR and performance matters
  • Sound knowledge of Australian employment law landscape including the Fair Work Act, Modern Award, EBA/Collective Agreement, and policy interpretation skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills – adept at collaborating, influencing and developing relationships at all levels of the organisation, even in challenging situations.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to balance multiple priorities and produce results within tight timeframes.
  • A love of animals, and demonstrated alignment with the vision, mission and values of the Lost Dogs’ Home.
