Senior Accountant - Yirrkala

Laynhapuy Homelands Aboriginal Corporation

If you're an experienced accountant who wants your work to mean more than balancing numbers, this could be the opportunity you're looking for.

At Laynhapuy Homelands Aboriginal Corporation (Laynha), every financial decision helps support vital services in some of Australia's most remote communities - our work directly impacts the lives of people across East Arnhem Land.

We're looking for a Senior Accountant who enjoys bringing order to complexity, takes pride in delivering accurate and meaningful financial information, and wants to be part of an organisation making a genuine difference. You'll be trusted to help guide financial decision-making, strengthen systems and processes, and support the long-term sustainability of services that matter.

This role is ideally suited to someone who can be based on-site and become part of the local team and community. However, for the right candidate, we are open to discussing flexible arrangements, including a roster that alternates between working on-site and remotely from Darwin.

Why Join Laynha?

For more than 40 years, Laynha has worked alongside 30 homeland communities across East Arnhem Land, supporting people to live, work, and thrive on Country.

We deliver a wide range of essential services, including healthcare, aged care, housing, community services, employment, and land and sea management.

This is an opportunity to use your professional skills in a role where your contribution is visible, valued, and connected to real outcomes. You'll join a supportive team that values collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, and respect for community.

About You

You're someone who enjoys understanding the story behind the numbers and turning financial information into practical insights. You take ownership of your work, have strong attention to detail, and are confident in building relationships across different teams.

You may already be a CPA or CA, or you could be nearing completion of your studies and ready to take the next step in your career.

You'll likely bring:

  • Several years' experience in accounting or finance
  • Strong financial reporting, budgeting, and reconciliation skills
  • Experience using cloud-based accounting systems such as Xero
  • Advanced Excel capability
  • Experience with payroll and HRIS systems such as Employment Hero
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and work independently
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach
  • High levels of integrity, professionalism, and accountability

Experience working within the not-for-profit sector, Indigenous organisations, grant-funded programs, or remote service delivery environments will be highly regarded but is not essential.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll play a key role in maintaining the financial health of the organisation by:

  • Producing accurate and timely financial reports and statements
  • Supporting budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities
  • Monitoring financial performance and identifying trends and opportunities
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant accounting, taxation, and funding requirements
  • Supporting continuous improvement of financial systems and processes
  • Working closely with managers to provide financial guidance and support
  • Assisting with audits and organisational reporting requirements
  • Supporting and mentoring members of the finance team

What We Offer

In return, you'll receive:

  • A meaningful role that directly supports remote Aboriginal communities
  • Opportunities for professional growth and development
  • A supportive and values-driven workplace culture
  • Competitive remuneration
  • Salary packaging benefits of up to $17,500 per annum
  • 6 weeks annual leave
  • Remote Living Allowance
  • Subsidised accommodation
