About the Role

We are seeking experienced Disability and Mental Health Support Workers for various positions in Newman and Port Hedland with a background in assisting individuals with disabilities and high care needs to support Keen to Care Australia (KTCA) Participants in our Newman and Port Hedland facilities.

As a Support Worker, you are expected to be resilient and possess a sound understanding of the importance of supporting people with disabilities. Ideally, you would be passionate, friendly, engaging and caring to successfully look after the participants and their needs.

We expect our Support Workers to be compassionate and professional, willing to work in rotating rosters, which may include weekend and overnight hours when required. You will provide day-to-day assistance to adults and children living with disabilities while supporting them to live independently and helping them work towards their goals. If you have been working in aged care or a disability/community service caring for vulnerable community members, and understand the industry and its requirements, you would be an ideal candidate to join KTCA!

Your Role:

  • Mentoring and guiding people within the Supported Independent Living (SIL) or/and Respite arrangement to develop independent living skills
  • Administering medication as required and briefed
  • Adherence to Participants’ Support Plans
  • Providing positive support in areas such as personal care, hygiene, transport, education, cooking and domestic duties, as well as emotional support.
  • Managing complex behaviours of concern
  • Completing clear, precise and factual handover notes and incident reports to managers and co-workers
  • Helping participants engage with their local communities and culture through access to community participation programs and recreational activities.
  • Work with people from diverse background
  • Work legally and ethically

Skills and Experience

  • Compassionate and empathetic attitude towards people with disabilities.
  • Understand Participants’ disability profile, their needs and support requirements.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good self-care and reflective practice skills, knowledge of personal and professional boundaries.
  • Commitment and ability to work as part of a rostered team, ensuring a consistent duty of care.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Flexibility to work different shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Prior experience in disability support services and aged care preferred but not required.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • NDIS Worker Screening check
  • Current First Aid (HLTAID003) and CPR certificates
  • Current WA driver’s license
  • Current Working with Children Check (or be willing to obtain one)
  • Right to work in Australia
  • Be able to work a rotating roster which includes evenings, active shifts, sleep shifts, and weekend shifts.
