An opportunity has arisen for an experienced management professional to join Robe River Kuruma Aboriginal Corporation (RRKAC) as the Cultural Heritage and Environment Manager.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and forming an integral part of the RRKAC Management Team, the key focus for the Cultural Heritage and Environment Manager will be to undertake strategic heritage and land management projects that contribute to the independence and wellbeing of RRK people and Country.

The position will manage the Cultural Heritage and Environment Unit and will develop and lead projects which are a key strategic focus in the Robe River Kuruma (RRK) strategic framework, healthy country plan and will provide opportunities for other identified RRK cultural priorities. To be successful in this role you must be able to demonstrate your experience in organisational management, deliver strong program management and be able to implement strategic proposals with stakeholders to deliver successful outcomes for RRK community and Country.

RRKAC was established in 2013 (then Kuruma Marthudunera Aboriginal Corporation) as the corporate entity for the RRK people. The RRK people have traditional rights to an area covering nearly 16,000 square kilometres in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, and RRKAC is the Prescribed Body Corporate for the Part A and Part B Robe River Kuruma Native Title Determination areas covering nearly 10, 000 square kilometres. RRKAC is pivotal in progressing the broader interests of the RRK people, and in representing them in their dealings with governments and private industry. RRKAC’s strategic focus is to work together as a community to establish a solid foundation towards independence, community wellbeing and cultural identity. In 2018 RRKAC was awarded finalist in Reconciliation Australia’s National Indigenous Governance Awards, and in 2019 was awarded Top Three Finalist in the Pilbara Community Services Excellence Awards for Outstanding Commitment to Best Practice in Member Support and Development.

The role will:

• Lead and facilitate heritage surveys and land management activities to support the efficient management of the RRKAC Cultural Heritage and Environment Unit to deliver on RRKAC’s strategic heritage and environment priorities.
• Represent RRKAC across a range of stakeholder networks to ensure the interest of RRK people is considered, supported and protected.
• Organise partnerships and collaborations that deliver heritage and environment outcomes for RRK people and Country.
• Implement Cultural awareness training to build constructive commercial relationships with mining companies, government and third-party service providers.
• Actively support corporate governance to meet heritage and environmental legislative requirements.
• Provide leadership and direction to a small but dedicated forward-thinking team.

Our ideal candidate will have:

• Working knowledge of Aboriginal community aspirations and cultural resource management practices.
• Experience coordinating several concurrent high-level projects and the delivery of successful outcomes which meet strategic goals and community aspirations.
• Highly developed communication, influencing and advocacy skills, with a demonstrated ability to develop strong working relationships with a range of key stakeholders.
• High level strategic planning, program evaluation, impact assessment and project management skills.
• Success in sourcing external funding to assist with the delivery of operational programs.
• You must be able to pass RRKAC’s Fitness for Work Policy which includes a drug and alcohol test.
