Job Description

Kalwun Development Corporation Ltd is an Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander community controlled organisation currently seeking to fill the following vacancy within our Seniors Services division. Kalwun Seniors Services is a provider of the Commonwealth Home Support Programme and Home Care Packages, and runs a day respite Wellness Centre.

About the Role

Kalwun Community Care is a provider of the Commonwealth Home Support Programme and Home Care Packages, and runs a day respite Wellness Centre. This is a rewarding part-time employment opportunity working in the community supporting the aged and disabled to achieve and maintain independence in the home and social connectedness. The position involves providing in home care services for clients as well as motivating frail, aged clients towards emotional and physical rehabilitation through recreational and craft activities that promote psychological, social and physical wellbeing. This position offers 20 guaranteed hours per week, with the flexibility to pick up additional hours.

This role will support clients on the Gold Coast, and the successful candidate will be required to user their own vehicle in the course of their duties. You will need to demonstrate that you have a valid drivers licence, and a vehicle with current registration and insurance. 

There are two types of roles available, and therefore we are seeking applicants who meet either of the following criteria:

  • Applicants who already have a Cert III in Individual Support or higher (or equivalent) OR
  • Applicants who do not have a qualification and who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. A requirement of employment would be to undertake the fully funded Cert III course (work time provided)

Position Duties

  • Deliver a range of personalised services to the client including domestic assistance, social support, respite care, shopping, transport, and basic personal care.
  • Recognising clients individual personal care needs by responding to their changing needs
  • Regularly monitor and observe the client and report and concerns or significant changes
  • Develops relationships that provide companionship and support while maintaining optimum professional boundaries
  • Assist and monitor clients participation in Centre based Wellness Activities, including art and craft, exercise, hydrotherapy, personal care and one on one Allied Health Services
  • Transport clients to and from the Centre or appointments as requested
  • Help create and maintain an environment that supports the wellbeing needs of people who are aged and frail
  • Provide assistance to the Wellness Centre Kitchen including meal delivery if needed
  • Liaise with the Client Service Officer or Management.
  • Deliver care in accordance with Guidelines and Kalwun policies 
  • Attendance at weekend community events are an occasional requirement for this position.

Essential Selection Criteria

  • Valid Yellow Card / NDIS Card (or ability to obtain one)
  • Current drivers licence and car with valid registration and insurance is essential
  • An understanding of the principles of wellness, client choice and control in Aged and Community Care
  • Demonstrated skills and ability to communicate effectively and sensitivity with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • Experience in undertaking respite care, personal care and social support is highly regarded.
