The Opportunity

The Senior Bookkeeper plays a critical role in supporting the financial health and sustainability of the organisation. This position is responsible for overseeing the organisation’s financial operations, including budgeting, financial reporting, forecasting, and compliance.

Working closely with the CEO and other key managers, the Senior Bookkeeper ensures that financial strategies and practices align with the organisation's strategic goals and regulatory obligations. The role also provides financial insight and analysis to inform decision-making and strengthen compliance and policy processes across the organisation.

This role is key to maintaining financial accountability and transparency within the organisation, supporting the effective allocation of resources, and ensuring that financial and organisation policy and practices meet the standards expected of a well-governed not-for-profit entity.

Role's location is Alice Springs or Remote with intra-Territory travel.

About You

  • You have 3–5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, ideally in a multi-cost-centre or grant-funded environment.
  • You hold a Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping or higher (or equivalent experience).
  • You have proficiency in Xero and strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • You will be a detail-oriented and proactive finance professional with a solid background in financial management, ideally within a not-for-profit organisation.
  • You will possess a strong understanding of budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance, and have experience working with external auditors and stakeholders in a transparent and accountable manner.
  • You will bring excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to translate financial information into practical insights for decision-makers.
  • You are a collaborative and solutions-focused approach is essential, as is the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • You will demonstrate integrity, sound judgment, and a genuine commitment to supporting the strategic goals of the organisation through strong financial stewardship.
  • You may have experience with reservations systems for booking of staff travel.
