• Salary range - $124,744 to 129,961 Level 7 SCHADS Award 2010 + Superannuation (pay point dependent on qualifications and experience)
• Ongoing position full-time position (1.0 FTE) per week
• Flexible working arrangements with 2 days in the office (Tuesdays and Wednesdays) 
• Position is based in Melbourne CBD
• Generous not-for-profit salary packaging with employee benefits such as annual leave loading of 17.5% is available

Position overview

As a pivotal part of our Innovation & Strategy Team, you will implement our Policy and Advocacy Strategy, leveraging Vacro’s position as a leader and trusted authority in reintegration. Our work is driven by the knowledge of our staff, people with lived experience of the criminal justice system and other stakeholders. You will strengthen our active relationships with government and build strong advocacy partnerships with sector organisations. 

Bring your passion for creating system change by shifting policy responses from risk, blame and stigma towards evidence-based, person-centred approaches with long term benefits. 

Your strong policy and communications background will enable you to successfully implement Vacro’s policy priorities by taking advantage of strategic opportunities to influence developments in the corrections and justice sectors. Use your outstanding research and writing skills to create deeply researched, innovative content that influences government, policy makers and the public. 

About Vacro

Vacro is an independent non-profit organisation working with people caught in the criminal justice system and their families. Founded in 1872, we are Victoria’s oldest and only specialised criminal justice reintegration service. We provide reintegration, family, and employment support that enables people to create new beginnings for themselves and their families.

Key Selection Criteria

• Tertiary qualification in social sciences or a related field. 
• Demonstrated research experience including the ability to analyse, synthesise and summarise complex information from a range of sources and develop recommendations on policy. 

• A minimum of 5 years’ experience producing writing that is final version quality ready for publication. 

• Knowledge and understanding of the complex issues relating to people who have been in contact with the criminal justice system, particularly those who have been incarcerated and their families highly regarded. 

• Knowledge of relevant legislation, government and political processes. 

• Proven ability to work collaboratively with staff and stakeholders, seeking their opinions, involving them in decision making and communicating findings in a timely and relevant manner. 
• Demonstrated experience with communications and marketing strategies.
