About the role

The purpose of the Psychosocial Support Worker is to provide non-clinical community-based support for people with severe mental illness in both a 1:1 and small group basis. You will build respectful and compassionate relationships with participants and follow support plans to develop participant resilience, confidence and independent living skills.

This role will work to specifically support Vietnamese speaking service users. Key activities and responsibilities include:

  • Providing direct casework and support to allocated clients including psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery support such as assisting participants to appointments, provision of transport, enhancement of daily living skills (routine setting, home management, budgeting, shopping)
  • Developing strategies to enable participants to develop skills and complete goals as outlined in their NDIS plans
  • Encouraging and supporting engagement in community and social activity
  • Preparing concise and accurate reports and attending and participating in client reviews

Key requirements

In addition to exceptional communication, interpersonal, administrative and organisational skills you will possess:

  • Fluent written and spoken Vietnamese language skills and highly developed cultural sensitivity and awareness
  • Knowledge of the NDIS, sound case management practices and experience working with people with complex needs within the NDIS/Psychosocial support system
  • Previous experience in a direct service delivery role engaging vulnerable clients and offering appropriate support, using a person-centered strength’s-based framework
  • A positive, collaborative, recovery focused approach
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and an open, cooperative, proactive and flexible approach
  • Clear and current National Police, Working with children and DWES checks
  • Commitment to the mission and values that underpin the work of St Mary’s House of Welcome
