About the role

The Office of the Public Advocate promotes and protects the rights of adults with decision-making disabilities to reduce their risk of neglect, exploitation and abuse through the provision of its statutory services in accordance with the functions of the Public Advocate under Guardianship and Administration Act 1990 (the Act).

The Senior Guardian acts as Guardian for represented persons under delegation from the Public Advocate. The role manages a team of guardians and assists in the prioritisation and allocation of work. The Senior Guardian undertakes the management of highly sensitive and complex cases and makes personal and lifestyle decisions on behalf of represented persons and advocates on their behalf. The role prepares reports for the State Administrative Tribunal and makes recommendations in respect of represented persons.

Eligibility to Apply

A tertiary qualification in social or behavioural sciences or related fields and/or equivalent experience is essential.

A current and valid ‘C’ class driver’s licence or equivalent.

About you

As a Senior Guardian you will need to be available for country travel, have a current motor vehicle driver’s licence and participate in an after-hours On Call Guardian roster. Due to current regulations for aged care facilities, successful applicants are encouraged to have, or be prepared to have, an influenza vaccination.

All employees are required to undergo employment screening, which includes a National Criminal History Check and other checks that may be relevant to the position requirements.

Pool Recruitment

The Department of Justice uses recruitment pools to build a bank of talent for future opportunities. When part of a pool you may be offered a permanent or temporary position, however an appointment is not guaranteed.

This pool will be open for a period of 12 months from the day after the breach of standard claim period closes. Permanent, fixed-term full-time appointments may be offered as vacancies arise. There is currently a vacancy available.
