Our Story

Indigenous Connection (IC) is a digital marketplace designed to connect Cultural Knowledge Providers with Cultural Knowledge Seekers. Dedicated to reducing poverty by creating Cultural Economic Inclusion. The project was seeded 2016 in an East Kimberley community of Wyndham, Western Australia.

The 2016 the aspiration to catalyse scalable & transformational change in remote communities of Northern Australia, is what drives IC today.

Our belief is that by creating market systems that meet the cultural, physical & emotional needs of Indigenous people, we can increase Country, Cultural, Human, Community & Economic well-being outcomes.

Our Vision

Cultural Knowledge Providers are accessing the economy like never before, based on knowledge for country, culture & community. Providers are not just accessing the economy at unprecedented levels, but are enjoying a sense of increased pride, identity, recognition, respect and self-worth.

Cultural Knowledge Seekers are enjoying deeper relationships with Country, Culture, People and Community. Reconciliation throughout the Kimberley, Arnhem Land & Far North Queensland is thriving.

Cultural economic participation is normalised.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • IC Cultural Knowledge Supporter, re-thinks current economic norms & wonders, why do remote community micro-economies function the way they do? What's important to remote community members? How do we make markets work for people living on Country?
  • Actively listening to the needs of the people to find systems-based solutions, that support increased Country, Cultural, Human, Community & Economic well-being outcomes.
  • Embracing Cultural Knowledge Provider's existing knowledge for Country, Culture, People & Community to create Cultural Economic inclusion!
  • Supporting Cultural Knowledge Providers across the Tiwi Islands, Arnhem land & Groote Archipelago to tell their story & to share Knowledge Services.
  • Collaborating with IC Cultural Knowledge Providers and technical partners to the project (behavioural science, web development, software, economic & data analytics)

Qualifications & experience

  • Minimum 2yrs experience living, travelling on Country & working in remote or very remote communities is essential.
  • Knowledge & experience relating to business, economic & market system development (MSD) concepts and theories, would be beneficial but not crucial. All of this stuff can be taught. However, alignment to cultural MSD philosophy, aspiration, vision & mission is critically important.
  • IC promotes and encourages a learning environment, where team members workshop & test ideas both internally and in communities.
  • High-level, proven combined cross-cultural literacy / communicative / leadership skills & attributes, are critically important in-field.
