Impact you will have in this role

Reporting to the Head of Strategic Philanthropy, this opportunity will play a critical role in growing revenue through building strong, long-lasting strategic corporate partnerships, trusts and foundations, and high-value supporter engagement.

This role is responsible for identifying, cultivating, securing, and stewarding funding opportunities that align with HRI’s research priorities. You will work closely with scientists, researchers, and internal stakeholders to craft compelling cases for support and build meaningful relationships with philanthropic funders and strategic partners.

With strong scope to identify new prospects and opportunities, you’ll play a key role in building relationships with internal and external stakeholders and creating meaningful alignment with new partners and funders.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop strategic partnership concepts and identify alignment opportunities with new corporate partners.
• Maintain effective, long-lasting relationships with current strategic corporate partners and develop ways to diversify and expand each relationship.
• Proactively identify, engage and build strong, long-lasting relationships with new prospects and supporters to build the trusts and foundations portfolio.
• Oversee the progress of philanthropic grants and high-quality acquittal reporting that highlights the social impact of the research.
• Write and submit high-quality grant applications, proposals, and pitch documents.
• Cultivate and steward major supporters and rebuild relationships with lapsed donors.
• Work closely with the scientists and internal teams to develop effective impact reporting and deliver updates when required.
• Deliver engaging presentations, supporter meetings, and stewardship activities to drive engagement.
• Contribute to the development of systems, processes, and capability-building initiatives to strengthen the portfolio.
• Support a culture of fundraising and collaboration across the organisation.

Skills and Experience

• Demonstrated experience in relationship fundraising across strategic partnerships, philanthropy, trusts and foundations, major gifts or similar.
• Strong writing skills and proven success writing compelling grant applications, proposals or cases to engage prospective supporters and partners.
• Strong relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience building long-lasting relationships, based on trust, transparency and connection.
• Highly organised with excellent time management and attention to detail.
• Ability to engage and collaborate with both scientific and non-scientific stakeholders.
• A passion for Heart Research Institute Australia’s mission and alignment to their work of research dedicated to preventing death and suffering from cardiovascular disease.
