The Indigenous Marathon Foundation (IMF) was founded in 2010 by World Marathon Champion and current Foundation Director, Robert de Castella AO MBE. A national health promotion charity, we use running to drive improved health, education, leadership and social outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across five core programs.
Demand for IMF services is growing, and IMF is increasingly driving a strategic narrative to position IMF in delivery of its mission of a unified, reconciled and healthy Australia.
The IMF Communications and Media Manager is responsible for the positioning, promotion, communication, marketing & public relations of the Indigenous Marathon Foundation and its programs. They will also develop and implement IMF’s marketing and communications strategy and programs and proactively manage media relations.
The role will work directly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their communities. The ability to easily and authentically connect with, interview, talk with, and navigate their stories sensitively is crucial. It is also important to understand diverse media production and be able to be directly involved in production where required.
The position also works with media, event organisers, the running community, IMF sponsors and corporate partners, companies, and organisations, as well as with State, Territory and Commonwealth Governments and Departments.
The role is dynamic in nature and will require some domestic travel into regional and remote areas across Australia, and possibly international travel from time to time. There will be times when this role is required to work outside of normal working hours.
The role is preferred (but not essential) to be in our head office in Canberra (ACT). Flexible WFH arrangements are an option.
