Are you a Principal or Senior Solicitor, looking for the next step in your practice, and wish to lead a team of skilled professionals in the delivery of critical services to our communities most vulnerable and disadvantaged people? This position offers the opportunity to work with a committed, multi-disciplinary team on a diverse range of social justice and legal issues.
Along with the Coordinator and Management Committee of Illawarra Legal Centre, the Principal Solicitor will provide leadership and drive the legal practice of ILC.
The Principal Solicitor in conjunction with the Management Committee has the overall responsibility for the strategic direction of the legal practice and legal services (including all case work, telephone advice, legal aspects of the community legal education program, and law and policy reform program). They ensure quality management strategies are implemented for the legal practice.
The Principal Solicitor operates the legal practice, ensuring ILC’s compliance with the National Association of Community Legal Centre’s risk management framework, funding requirements, and regulatory requirements.
The Principal Solicitor provides leadership and direction for ILC’s legal practice, that is strategic, sustainable, ethical and reasoned. The Principal aligns the legal practice to ILC’s strategic plan, provides oversight and coordinates the Centre’s intake, advice and casework, community legal education, law reform activities and ensures the effectiveness of the service’s practice.
The Principal Solicitor provides advice and a case work load, while also delivering community legal education to the community, and undertaking policy work and law reform.
