Senior Project Officer - IncludeAbility Project

The Australian Human Rights Commission is looking for an EL1 Senior Project Officer on a non-ongoing basis in the Disability Rights Team working on the IncludeAbility project.

Salary range $111,649 to $124,836 + 15.4% superannuation.

IncludeAbility aims to advance contemporary practice models in the disability employment space through the pilot employment programs. Delivery of the pilot programs will be a key focus of the Senior Project Officer role.

The Senior Project Officer position sits in the IncludeAbility Project Team, and reports to the Director, IncludeAbility. The IncludeAbility Project Team is part of the Disability Rights portfolio and works collaboratively with that team and with the Disability Discrimination Commissioner.

The successful applicant will apply their advanced project management skills and subject matter expertise to support the delivery of the IncludeAbility Project’s objectives. This will include:

  • Coordinating the establishment and delivery of 6-8 pilot programs that promote sustained and meaningful employment opportunities for people with disability in open employment, which can be adapted and scaled up beyond the term of the pilot programs.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with senior executive stakeholders across a range of constituencies, communities, government agencies and organisations, in particular the members of the IncludeAbility Employer Network and Ambassador Advisory Group.
  • Undertaking research and policy analysis relevant to employment and disability rights.
  • Developing and reviewing resources for the IncludeAbility Project and the IncludeAbility web portal.
  • Developing and implementing rigorous project management systems and strong monitoring and evaluation processes.
  • Providing high level policy and strategic advice to the Director, IncludeAbility, and the Disability Discrimination Commissioner on key issues relating to people with disability and their employment.
  • Working collegiately with internal stakeholders across the Commission to achieve the strategic goals of the Commission, particularly in relation to disability employment.
  • Supervising staff and interns in the conduct of research, preparation of materials and other related work, in particular the Policy/Project Officer APS6) and the Policy and Secretariat Officer – IncludeAbility Project (APS4).
  • Leading training, presentations and consultations and participating in the public awareness/education and promotional work of the Commission as required.
  • Other duties consistent with the above as directed.

Key requirements

  • Extensive skills in project management, including the development, preparation and management of project documents and reports and the ability to respond flexibly to changing work demands.
  • Well-developed relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills, with a capacity to ensure that various stakeholder interests are recognised and managed positively and professionally.
  • Advanced research, analytic and written communication skills, and demonstrated proficiency in developing complex, practical policy solutions.
  • Demonstrated capacity for strategic thinking, sound judgement and creative problem solving.
  • Demonstrated specialist knowledge and understanding of disability policy, employment policy and human rights.
  • Experience in developing and delivering training is desirable.
