Context

Covenant Care (CC) is a community engagement program operated by Holy Covenant Anglican Church, Cook.

The program seeks to improve social connections, and physical & mental wellbeing, for vulnerable people in the Canberra community. We achieve this through three programs, at no cost to participants:

  • Covenant Care Respite (CCR) - provides ‘A Day with a Difference’ for mostly elderly people, living at home with a life-limiting illness, ensuring a day of respite for their carers. Transport to and from the venue is provided.
  • Household Support – includes provision of a range of mobilityequipment on loan and physical and psychosocial support and assistance for people living with complex and chronic disorganisation and hoarding disorders.
  • Outings – provides several outings a year to local cafes and other venues for CC program participants.

Purpose of position

The position is responsible for providing leadership to the Covenant Care programs. This includes developing and implementing policies, operational practices and program improvements; supervising staff and volunteers; and promoting and expanding services, volunteer base and activities, under limited direction from the Management Committee.

The position is permanent part time, up to 20 hours per week.

Duties

  • Develop and implement a strategic policy framework for Covenant Care.
  • Drive the implementation of existing programs to ensure they are meeting current and future needs and consider new program options.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and encouragement to other staff and the volunteer group, including through training, supervision, feedback and social opportunities.
  • Promote the Covenant Care programs to a range of stakeholders, investigate opportunities for leveraging financial and in-kind support and implement strategies for seeking new clients and volunteers.
  • Provide financial oversight for the program and act as Executive Officer to the Management Committee.
  • Undertake minor research and analysis to facilitate future planning.
  • Ensure that Covenant Care is meeting all compliance and regulatory requirements and delivering agreed outcomes.
  • Oversee and/or undertake administration duties to ensure that Covenant Care office tasks are completed in a timely and effective manner.

Organisational responsibilities

  • An understanding of and respect for the Christian values which underpin the CC Programs, and a willingness to work within the Programs’ ethos. 
  • Draft reports to various bodies, as required.
  • Maintain timesheets and, if required, mileage details for use of own car.
  • Abide by the Covenant Care Code of Conduct and ensure all staff and volunteers do likewise.

Skills Required:

  • High level leadership capacity and an ability to work flexibly and independently with minimal supervision and direction.
  • High level policy development and program management skills.
  • Strong and effective communication skills, including the ability to communicate sensitively with a diverse range of people.
  • An ability to lead, manage and work cohesively with staff and volunteers.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Good financial and computer literacy skills.

The applicant must have:

  • A current Australian Driver’s License.
  • A current Working with Vulnerable People card.
  • Safe Ministries Awareness (Modules 1 – 3) (or willingness to obtain).
  • A current First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
