About Us
Our Common Place is a purpose-driven organisation dedicated to supporting First Nations leadership in caring for country, culture, and community. We operate in an intercultural space built on deep respect, relationships, and self-determination. With a nimble, passionate team of 15–20 specialists, we deliver impactful programs funded through a mix of fee-for-service contracts, grants, and donations.
The Role
Are you a systems-savvy operations professional who loves keeping the engine room running smoothly?
As our Business Manager, you will hold the operational blueprint of the organisation. You will oversee budgeting, financial systems, compliance, and HR. Instead of doing all the heavy lifting yourself, you will act as the critical conductor—supervising our external team of specialists (Bookkeeper, Accountant, HR Consultant, and IT Consultant).
You will work hand-in-hand with our Program Operations Manager and Fundraising & Communications Manager to ensure our finances, tech stack, and staff resources perfectly align to power our purpose.
Key Responsibilities
- Budgeting & Finance: Lead annual organisational forecasting; advise on project budgets for grant applications; oversee fee-for-service billing and DGR donation streams via QuickBooks.
- Contractor Management: Direct and evaluate the performance of our external bookkeeper, accountant, HR, and IT providers.
- Internal Collaboration: Partner with internal managers to sync operational project pipelines with financial tracking and resource capacity.
- Systems Leadership: Act as our internal champion for Monday.com, ensuring clean tech workflows and team transparency.
- HR & Compliance: Manage onboarding, coordinate payroll processing, and maintain strict alignment with ACNC and funding body regulations. Fulfil the role of Public Officer.
About You (Selection Criteria)
- The Conductor: You have proven experience managing and driving value from external vendors (HR, finance, or IT).
- Financial & Budgeting Whiz: You possess strong financial acumen, with experience building budgets and tracking diverse revenue streams in QuickBooks. Qualifications in finance/accounting would be desirable or equivalent extensive experience.
- Systems Champion: You are highly tech-literate and love optimising platforms like Monday.com to keep remote or hybrid teams aligned.
- Interculturally Capable: You have a demonstrated understanding of—or experience working within—intercultural workspaces, particularly alongside First Nations people or communities.
- Adaptable: You thrive in a medium-sized (15–20 staff) NFP environment, easily shifting from high-level compliance to hands-on administration.
