ABOUT THE HCCC

The Health Care Complaints Commission (HCCC) is an independent body (set up under the Health Care Complaints Act 1993) that assesses, resolves, investigates and prosecutes complaints relating to health services and health service providers in NSW. In exercising this function, the health and safety of the public is the overarching consideration.

The investigations branch plays a key role by responding to and investigating high risk and sensitive complaints regarding health practitioners and health organisations.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The primary purpose of the role is to conduct investigations effectively and efficiently in accordance with relevant legislation and Commission policies and procedures.

About you:

  • A natural problem solver with investigative, regulatory, legal, monitoring or compliance experience, and an ability to identify issues and assess risk.
  • Experience in conducting investigations including interviewing, statement taking, evidence collection and analysis, and interpretation and application of legislation.
  • Able to identify appropriate sources of evidence and lines of enquiry, and compile briefs of evidence.
  • Driven, motivated and able to progress investigations within designated timeframes and with minimal oversight.
  • Well developed written communication skills and proficiency in report writing and critical analysis.
  • A strong communicator with excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work well as a team member and communicate effectively with people from a diverse range of cultures, backgrounds and experiences.
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy and sensitivity while maintaining independence and impartiality.

Essential requirements:

To be eligible to apply for this position, applicants must have existing Australian work rights.

Given the HCCC’s unique and critical role in maintaining the integrity of the NSW health system, it is essential that all prospective employees are able to carry out their duties in an independent, honest and consistent manner with uncompromising adherence to strong moral and ethical principles and values.

The successful applicant will be required to complete a Background Verification Check which includes a National Police Check (Criminal History), qualification check, and Working with Children’s Check.

All employees of the HCCC are required to have received a COVID-19 vaccine or have an approved medical contraindication certificate. You will be required to provide a record of your COVID-19 vaccination status if successful.
