Located in the heart of Carlisle, Harold Hawthorne Community Centre (the Centre) has been a trusted community hub for over 50 years. We deliver a diverse range of programs and services that enrich lives and support independence, connection, and wellbeing for seniors, people with disabilities, and those experiencing social isolation.

Our operations include:

  • Supporting over 800 clients in the community by providing inclusive aged care home and social support services, helping senior’s stay active and live independently in their own homes.
  • Operating a vibrant community centre, where locals can feel supported and engaged through a variety of events, activities and wellness programs.
  • Serving over 30,000 nutritious meals annually through our community dining and Meals on Wheels service.
  • Providing independent living housing through our 41 retirement village and 4 social housing units.

About the Role

We are seeking a Treasurer to join our Management Committee (Board of Management). This role contributes their knowledge and insight to the governance, strategic direction, and sustainability of the Centre. You’ll work alongside a team of passionate community leaders and professionals to help us achieve our objectives.

As the Treasurer and Management Committee member, your main responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing the monthly and annual financial statements including Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow reports.
  • Have as a key focus the overseeing of financial performance, investments, and risk compliance.
  • Help ensure a high standard of reporting that supports financial sustainability.
  • Assist in providing oversight, input, and accountability on governance, strategy, and organisational performance.
  • Help ensure compliance with legal, financial, and regulatory obligations.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, risk management, and policy development.
  • Actively participate in monthly committee meetings and annual general meetings.

Commitments

  • Attend monthly meetings (approx. 2-hour duration), with reading reports required beforehand. Meetings are currently scheduled for 5:15 PM on the third Monday of each month.
  • Review annual financial statements and prepare Treasurer’s Report
  • Participate in the Annual General Meeting and occasional community or organisational events.
  • Voluntary role

Key Requirements

  • A National Police Clearance dated within the past three months (assistance can be provided to obtain this if appointed to the Management Committee)
  • A commitment to the Centre’s values and mission
  • Strong accounting and financial acumen (Ideally be a CPA or CA)
  • Experience or understanding of the Treasurer role (particularly in the Aged Care industry or similar), including the ability to contribute to and guide financial discussions
  • Ability to attend Management Committee meetings throughout the year
  • Capacity to contribute to effective governance and oversight
