BACKGROUND

The NSW Greens are founded on four pillars - social equity & economic justice, ecological sustainability, grassroots democracy, and peace, nonviolence & disarmament. Greens parties across the world share these values.

The NSW Greens are looking to recruit a Campaign Coordinator to oversee our election campaign for the federal division of Grayndler. The federal election is likely to be in early to mid 2025.

The role is part-time, potentially scaling up to full time (depending on donations received) and will play a key leadership role in the campaign. The role will be responsible for implementing a dynamic local campaign that will connect with the community and strengthen support for progressive politics.

The role will support the Grayndler Campaign Committee, which is a volunteer committee of Greens members responsible for setting campaign direction and overseeing local campaigns. The role will work closely with sitting Greens Senators, MPs, Greens Councillors, election candidates, volunteers and other Greens staff. The role will also engage with community groups and activists on local and Federal issues, particularly around housing and climate justice.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Implementing an integrated campaign strategy with the volunteer Campaign Committee.
  2. Coordinating the development and implementation of a Field Organising strategy with the Campaign Committee.
  3. Organising: Engaging volunteers and the logistics for street stalls, door knocking, telephone banking and other campaign activities.
  4. Event Coordination: Identifying, creating and coordinating supporter events including forums, dinners, fundraising events and other opportunities.
  5. Communications: Supporting the distribution of digital communications (such as EDMs, text blasts, social media posts, etc) and helping to deliver physical materials (such as HTVs, flyers, corflutes, etc) as directed by the Campaign Committee.
  6. Logistical Assistance: Administration support for the campaign and candidates.
  7. Working collaboratively with the Campaign Committee to manage a balanced campaign budget and ensure compliance with GNSW requirements and electoral laws.
  8. Developing and maintaining professional relationships with Campaign Committee, employed staff, volunteers, local group members, Greens NSW staff and office bearers.
  9. Day to day line manager for other Campaign staff including directing and leading their work plans.
  10. Contributing to a comprehensive post-election evaluation report.
  11. Ensuring the engagement of various communities in the inner city, including migrant, LGBTQIA+ and Disability communities.
  12. Overseeing the direct management of a Field Organiser, should funding permit the recruitment of one.
  13. Any other tasks as directed.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS/ SELECTION CRITERIA

  1. A commitment to Greens values and policies
  2. Demonstrated experience coordinating, managing and motivating volunteers in a grassroots Campaign
  3. Experience implementing successful and contemporary communications strategies, including practical knowledge of social media platforms, databases, and other online tools
  4. Outstanding interpersonal and organisational skills and an ability to work under pressure with competing deadlines
  5. Exceptional project management skills, including the identification and minimisation of risks
  6. Well-developed political judgement, and a good understanding of federal political issues
  7. A good understanding of the importance of data management in campaigning and experience with contact databases.
  8. A willingness to understand and respect the structure of Greens NSW and the Australian Greens
  9. A current Drivers Licence
  10. A current Working with Children Check or a willingness to obtain one in the first month of employment
  11. Flexibility and a willingness to undertake evening and weekend work

Note: Successful candidates must not be a current member of another political party.

PREFERRED (NON-ESSENTIAL) REQUIREMENTS

  1. Prior experience working on a Greens campaign

PAY AND CONDITIONS

  • Salary range: From $49.58 - $51.21 per hour plus 12.5% superannuation and leave (Class 4.1 - 4.2, depending on experience).
  • Primary Location: The Greens NSW state office, Camperdown
  • Hours: 21 hours (3 days) per week. Some weekends and after-hours work will be required. Depending on fundraising, scaling up to full time in the weeks before election day may be available.
  • Length of contract: Contract until two weeks after the Federal election (estimated to be in May 2025).
  • Position begins: Late January 2025 or as negotiated
  • Covered by: The Greens NSW Staff Collective Agreement.

RELATIONSHIP TO OTHERS

  • The employer is the Greens NSW Inc (an incorporated association).
  • You will formally report to the NSW Campaign Coordinator
  • Day-to-day direction will be the Convenor of the Grayndler Campaign Committee or another person delegated by the Grayndler Campaign Committee.
  • You will work closely and supportively with the candidate.
  • You will work closely with Councillors, candidates, MPs, campaign coordinators, and other Greens NSW staff and volunteers.
