Tamara Smith MP is the first woman to hold the seat of Ballina and the first Greens MP in a Lower House regional seat in any Parliament of Australia

Our small, passionate Electorate Office team work to support the MP in a fast paced, high demand environment.

We provide exceptional one-on-one support to constituents as well as building strong relationships with organisations and stakeholders to advance the Greens principles of social and economic justice, environmental sustainability, grassroots democracy and non-violence.

About the position

The Electorate Officer provides administrative support to the MP and her staff in their respective areas of communications, parliament and policy, and constituent management.

The role is flexible and responsive to those needs with duties ideally including database management, basic financial accounting, digital content and issues-based communications.

Key responsibilities

  • Clerical support in preparing digital communications such as e-blasts, social media and website content
  • Facilitate key communications with constituency and stakeholders including mail outs and other public facing collateral
  • Maintain confidential files, submit and manage invoices, and basic accounting
  • Manage our CRM database system, website, and support broader systems and processes of the Electorate Office
  • Support local Member events and community engagement opportunities

Selection criteria

Essential

  • Excellent computer skills including demonstrated proficiency using client management databases such as NationBuilder, Voter ID, or other Customer Management systems, as well as proficiency working across Google Workspace and Microsoft Office
  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively manage phone inquiries, liaise with community groups and non-government organisations, as well as parliamentary staff, MP offices, and other government departments
  • Strong writing skills including the ability to draft formal correspondence, and constituent focused written communication materials including E communications
  • Demonstrated high level organisational skills, ability to work effectively under pressure, and manage competing priorities to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated capacity to exercise sound judgement and ability to perform at a high standard under limited supervision and within a team environment.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the key issues impacting our local region, and the functions of councils
  • Commitment to the core principles of the Greens and an interest in, and understanding of, the Australian political context
  • Experience in community organising, campaigns or event co-ordination.
