ABOUT THE GREENS NSW

The Greens movement is based on the four pillars of social equity and economic justice, ecological sustainability, grassroots democracy, and peace, nonviolence and disarmament. Greens parties across the world share these same principles and values.

The Greens NSW has 60 local groups across NSW. We currently have 60 elected Councillors, four Members of Parliament in the Upper House and three in the Lower House in NSW Parliament. In the Federal Parliament, the Greens have eleven Senators and four Lower House MP’s.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Communications and Media Officer will craft a narrative for public use in the Richmond campaign which can be shared across all communications channels.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Crafting plain English narratives from daily messaging issues for local government campaign use.
  • Assisting local government campaigns create local media statements.
  • Assisting candidates and campaign teams develop skills in drafting public statements.
  • Creating single page ‘explainer’ documents for the campaign.
  • Providing advice to local campaigns on messaging and responding to external media enquiries.
  • Support Campaign Manager in responding to external media enquiries.
  • Run training sessions for candidates and campaigners on media skills.

Other duties as directed.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

The Communications and Media Officer must meet the following essential requirements:

  • A commitment to the Greens and to advancing Greens policies and principles.
  • Experience in media, social media and policy work.
  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to liaise with local Greens campaigns.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and work to tight deadlines in a dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated emotional intelligence, problem solving skills and resilience.
  • An understanding of the Greens and support for the party’s principles, policies, and decision-making processes.
  • Advanced skills in MS Office, social media platforms.
  • Strong social media skills and experience. Strong understanding of segmentation and target audiences.
  • Experience in a political or progressive activist campaigning environment.
  • Essential: A current Working with Children Check or a willingness to obtain one in the first month of employment.

Note: Occasional evening and weekend work and travel within NSW will be required.

Successful candidates must not be a member of another political party.

PAY AND CONDITIONS

  • Salary: $85, 219.47 p.a. pro rata + 12% superannuation.
  • Primary Location: Work from home travel in Northern Rivers NSW
  • Hours: Part time at 14 hrs (2 days) hours per week
  • Status: Part-time fixed term contract.
  • Position begins: April 2024
  • Covered by: The Greens NSW Staff Collective Agreement.
