About the role

The Waranara School is an accredited secondary school located in Marrickville, providing a safe and inclusive environment for young people who have disconnected from mainstream education due to the impact of mental health issues and complex trauma to reconnect with education.

The Wellbeing Support Worker provides individualised support to students to facilitate their engagement in the school setting. This includes crisis counselling, referral to ongoing counselling and other youth support services, regular communication with parents, carers and relevant stakeholders and vocational pathway planning.

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Qualifications in Social Sciences/Welfare/Youth Work
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience and highly developed skills in working with young people and their parents/carers who may have complex needs
  • Demonstrated understanding of adolescent development, mental health and wellbeing
  • Demonstrated understanding of trauma informed practice and experience in strength-based service delivery
  • A current unrestricted Drivers licence
  • A satisfactory Police Check
  • A current Working with Children Check (WWCC)
