Scope of position

The Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for marketing and communications strategies and operations to deliver exceptional brand engagement experiences & support the achievement of Good Return’s key fundraising goals and priorities. The primary purpose of this role is to position Good Return as a thought leader across our target audiences, grow brand awareness and support for the organisation, and engage and retain our supporter community.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Drive brand awareness and grow support for Good Return and our work

  • Continuously develop, refine and implement marketing and communications strategies to build awareness of the Good Return brand and drive support for our work among our target audiences. Drive each activity with a digital focus, utilising social media (organic and paid), SEO, paid search, digital display, and paid content with PR and earned media.
  • Maintain and monitor the brand of Good Return, establishing a clear brand voice and proposition and embedding organisational brand guidelines.
  • Manage a Communications Officer to develop and implement a content marketing strategy and calendar to build awareness and support for our work.
  • Measure the results of marketing and communications activity to inform future implementation, including driving test and optimisation plans to continually improve results.
  • Support the Development Director, Head of Partnerships and Events and Engagement Manager to develop marketing strategies and material to target high value supporter bases including philanthropy, Ultra and High Net Worth Individuals and Corporates/business.
  • Manage media enquiries and occasional proactive media reach out, with support from an external PR provider.

2. Engage and retain our supporter community

  • Ensure high quality content that reflects our work, expertise and impact is regularly published across all channels to engage and excite audiences.
  • In collaboration with the fundraising and program teams, support and lead the delivery of a range of key supporter communications across the year including partner impact updates, collateral for events and funder reports.
  • With support from the Development Director, lead the development and delivery of digital fundraising campaigns twice yearly.
  • With support from the Communications Officer, regularly produce a range of content including newsletters, blog pieces and thought leadership pieces.
  • Manage the Good Return website and supporting websites.
  • Manage and deliver the Good Return Annual Report.
  • In collaboration with the Events and Engagement Manager, develop and implement supporter journeys and stewardship activities to engage and retain supporters.
  • Support and lead the delivery of a range of key supporter communications across the year.
  • Support the Development Director and Grants and Proposal Specialist with the preparation of pitch documents and applications.

3. Marketing and communications support and leadership across the organisation

  • Ensure Good Return adheres to communications requirements and expectations from the Australian Government and ACFID.
  • Provide marketing and communications strategic advice and support to the Good Return team, assisting with the promotion of our sector products, in-country work and sector engagement (conferences, presentations etc).
  • Prepare reports to the Good Return Board and CEO on marketing and communications activities and outcomes.
  • Deliver on Good Return’s social inclusion actions with a communications focus.
  • 4. Other Duties as required

KPis:

  1. Develop, maintain and deliver an annual calendar of marketing and communications activities.
  2. Marketing and engagement targets achieved per approved annual business plan.
  3. Develop and deliver regular public, partner and supporter communications in collaboration with the Fundraising team.
  4. Collaborate with the programs team in the development of high impact marketing and communications content.
  5. Monthly reporting on marketing actions, results, and learnings.
  6. Contribute to the organisational annual and strategic plan targets with regards to marketing and communications.

SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES

Required

  • Proven experience in leading the development, delivery and evaluation of marketing and communications strategy and operations with a focus on fundraising and supporter engagement.
  • Proven experience in development, design and delivery of creative content and messaging in coordination with a wide range of organisational stakeholders.
  • Proven experience with a range of communications tools and systems and the ability to learn new systems quickly (current key systems include Canva, Orrto, Squarespace, Salesforce).
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience managing websites. Knowledge of SEO/SEM and web traffic metrics.
  • Proficiency with Canva and social media platforms.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills with the ability to work autonomously, manage multiple projects and competing priorities.

  • Canva experience
  • Ortto or similar email platform experience
  • Experience with Wordpress or Squarespace
