(GLaWAC) represents the Traditional Owners of Gippsland, the Gunaikurnai people. The role of GLaWAC is to meet the aspirations of the Whole of Country Plan and to support members through Native Title related matters.

About the Position

The Major Projects Engagement Manager will support Elders, Traditional Owners, and community members to have their voices heard about major energy projects on Country.

This role will be an important connector between GLaWAC’s Major Projects team and community, ensuring mob are informed, respected, and meaningfully involved in decisions affecting Country, culture, and future generations.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Organising community gatherings and information sessions
  • Planning and delivering community engagement activities
  • Facilitating open dialogue between community and GLaWAC
  • Working with government, industry partners, and other stakeholders
  • Managing budgets and resources, and tracking outcomes

Capturing community voices is critical. Working in line with Gunaikurnai cultural authority, protocols, and ways of doing, this role will support self-determination and ensure decision-makers hear directly from community.

ESSENTIAL:

  • To be able to engage sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal led communities and organisations.
  • Knowledge of the social and cultural issues that have been experience past and present, along with a genuine appreciation and respect for Aboriginal culture.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or professional experience, for example, Community Engagement, Business Management or Community Development.
  • Strong stakeholder relationship management, including a strong relationship with GLaWAC and experience in engagement with Traditional Owners.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proven ability to independently plan, coordinate, organise, and deliver tasks with initiative and self-motivation.
