About the role

The Business Operations Manager is responsible for the overarching management of the business service support functions to the two operational departments – School Partnerships and Product Development – and the prudent and effective management of the organisation’s finance and governance responsibilities.

Key responsibility areas include:

  • Financial and compliance management
  • Contract management
  • Human resource management
  • IT, assets and facilities management
  • Governance support
  • Workplace health and safety

The Business Operations Manager is a ‘hands on’ role as part of the senior management team and has 2.5 direct reports. The role is critical in developing and implementing business strategies and financial plans and managing compliance with both legislation and organisational policy, practice and procedure and the successful applicant will need to have the broad management experience in which to oversight all areas of the business and the capacity to achieve deliverables in accordance with a defined project management methodology.

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrated previous experience across all business support areas of governance, financial management, human resources, contracts, operational management and stakeholder relationships as a Business Manager, or in a similar role, in a complex and expanding organisation across;
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline
  • Solid business and financial acumen
  • Demonstrated experience in strategically leading the financial and business service management  and  systems of a medium to large organisation;
  • High level financial management,  reporting and interpretation skills across multi-revenue streams
  • Demonstrated knowledge of government funding, contract management and auditing requirements of a not-for-profit organisation;
  • Demonstrated experience in working as part of a leadership team, including providing support and advice to the CEO and Board of Directors;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in managing financial risk and appropriate risk management systems;
  • Ability to obtain a working with children check (QLD Blue Card); and
  • Ability to obtain a successful police check. 

Desirable criteria

  • Chartered Accountant  or Certified Practicing Accountant qualification;
  • Both commercial and not-for-profit experience; and
  • Understanding of the social, political and legal framework in which the organisation operates.
