GetUp is looking for a Campaigner with strong digital and communication skills to work on our media and democracy campaigns. In this role you will be given the opportunity to be part of a team of experienced campaigners, where together you will push for progressive change.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone at the start of their career as an activist or someone looking to make the jump into full time activism. Successful GetUp campaigners have a range of backgrounds and experiences including; journalism, media, communications, public relations, law, policy, community work, creative industries and the arts.

SCHADS classification Level 3-4 with salary range $67,570.88 - 79,870.52 per annum + superannuation determined by relevant experience and qualifications. This is a permanent position ideally based in Sydney.

WHO IS THE MEDIA & DEMOCRACY CAMPAIGNS TEAM

GetUp is full of talented campaigners who lead the organisation’s efforts to create a more progressive Australia. The Media & Democracy campaigns team prides itself on deep strategic thinking as well as the ability to seize crucial change moments to strengthen the pillars of our democracy, including fighting for a strong and diverse media landscape, and integrity in politics.

Their days are filled with analysing the political state of play, developing long-term and rapid-fire strategy, engaging with politicians, media and affected communities, spotting the right moment to intervene, running impactful tactics including everything from protests to undercover investigations, writing hard-hitting copy, and coming up with creative ways to give our members the best chance for impact. Some of the recent campaigns the Media and Democracy team have been involved in are; the ABC campaign, media concentration, federal integrity commission and voter ID.

AS A CAMPAIGNER AT GETUP, YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

• Drafting high quality campaign content;
• Administering the website backend;
• Reviewing social media content;
• Reviewing systems for member correspondence;
• Monitoring and suggesting responses to the latest news and developments;
• Executing campaign research, planning and evaluation;
• Working within campaigns teams to execute campaigns and meet their goals;
• Supervising other staff and/or volunteers as required.

YOU WILL BE SOMEONE WHO:

• Has a deeply held commitment to justice who is passionate about creating progressive change on a wide range of issues;
• Has strong digital skills and a willingness to learn new technologies, and who thrives in a fast-paced and dynamic environment;
• Has strong written communication skills, adept at thinking through complex issues and communicating them simply and clearly;
• Works independently on a range of tasks and projects and takes initiative to get the job done;
• Is a team player who is always bringing off-the-wall, creative ideas to the table; and
• Has at least two years relevant professional experience.
